While a January transfer is being considered, Pedro Neto has the potential to be a “superb addition to Arsenal.

With it being the international break and 2023 nearing its conclusion, naturally, eyes are shifting to the January transfer window and what business Arsenal should get done.
If it’s anything like the summer where over £200million was spent to recruit Kai Havertz, Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and David Raya (loan) whilst around £70million was recouped by letting the likes of Granit Xhaka, Matt Turner and Folarin Balogun depart then another busy period is in store for Gunners supporters.
In fact, there has already been talk of potential incomings. Brentford striker Ivan Toney’s name continues to do the rounds as Arsenal are apparently looking to add a focal point in attack. Meanwhile, links to Wolves winger Pedro Neto have resurfaced a year on from being tipped as a possible
As the Gunners hope to be in the Champions League knockout rounds in the new year, manager Mikel Arteta will need to ensure he has a squad that can challenge in Europe as well as last the distance in the Premier League title race and go deep in the domestic competitions.
Having said that, is there a chance a deal gets done for either Toney or Neto – or perhaps both – in January? Well, on the latest episode of the ‘View From The Clock End’ podcast, following the 1-0 win over Manchester City, football.london’s Chief Arsenal Writer Kaya Kaynak discussed those links.
“It’s certainly a position where Arsenal are looking to strengthen (the forward line),” Kaynak stated. “They’re not necessarily in the market for an out-and-out number nine. Although they are tracking Ivan Toney, they are more in the market for a forward who can play across the front line and Pedro Neto can play in all of those three positions – left-wing, right-wing and as a false nine as he’s done that in the past for Wolves.

“I think he’s an excellent player, I really enjoyed watching him before he got that injury, or those series [of] injuries that really ruled him out for two years at Wolves. They seemed to have curtailed his career but he’s really come back since then. He’s been outstanding this season, he seems to have gained a yard of pace as well which is making him even more of a threatening player.
“He’s direct, he’s an excellent dribbler. He’s very similar to Gabriel Martinelli but he can play on the right-hand side if needs be. I think he’d be a superb addition to the Arsenal attacking-line. I think he’d be great cover for Saka if needed, I think he’d even push Saka for a starting spot. He can certainly push Martinelli and [Leandro] Trossard over on the other side.”
However, following an outlay of more than £200million in the summer, Kaynak has pointed out that Neto’s reported price-tag of £60million is a problem for Arsenal looking ahead to the January window and that’s even with Wolves’ current financial situation factored in.
“The major concern for Arsenal is obviously the price-tag,” Kaynak added. “Neto does have four years left on his deal at Wolves. That makes things very difficult. They, quite rightly, would demand a sizeable fee for a player who is very highly-rated across the Premier League and, prior to his injury, was tracked not just by Arsenal, but a number of sides in the Premier League.
“The issue for Wolves is they are obviously going through some financial difficulties. They had to sell a few players in the summer, getting rid of Ruben Neves was a really big thing for them because they needed to bring some cash in and they are quite open to selling a few players.
