Kyle Walker and Erling Haaland were involved in some unsavoury scenes after suffering a 1-0 defeat at Arsenal on Sunday.

The pair were spotted furiously confronting Gunners’ set-piece coach Nicolas Jover, who previously worked at City, as they walked towards the tunnel at full-time. Walker seemed to take issue with something that was said and confronted Jover, with Haaland backing him up and several people trying to get in between.

Emotions were running high after City suffered their third defeat in four games, conceding a late deflected effort from Gabriel Martinelli. Pep Guardiola’s side defended resolutely but failed to find their groove once again going forward.

Asked about the incident, Guardiola remained tight-lipped and shook his head. He then smiled and said: “I know what happened but I don’t want to say anything.”

Defeat for City has left them in third place going into the international break, having been leapfrogged by Arsenal after they took all three points late on. Tottenham Hotspur also went above them after beating Luton Town 1-0 on Saturday.

It was the last of three matches City had to play without Rodri, who was handed a suspension after grabbing Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White around the throat. They have lost all three of those games.

Haaland is also struggling to recreate last season’s form, having scored just one goal in his last five appearances. The Norwegian failed to record a single shot on target at the Emirates and was kept quiet by William Saliba.

City could have endured an even worse afternoon and should have been down to 10 men when Mateo Kovacic lunged in late on Declan Rice in the first half. The Croatian had just been booked for a reckless challenge on Martin Odegaard and was fortunate to have stayed on the pitch.

Much of the second-half was played at a slow pace with a goalless draw looking almost certain. But the home side managed to nick all three points 86th minute, Martinelli’s effort deflecting off Nathan Ake and past a hapless Ederson.
