Jurgen Klopp has provided an injury update โNot great, definitely not. Not available Alisson, we donโt know exactly how long it takes. Diogo Jota with a knee issue is ruled out, it will take months. Curtis Jones with a bone ligament issue, ruled out.โ
It’s simply incredible what a job Jรผrgen Klopp has done this season while dealing with so many injured players in such an important time.
Thoughts?๐ฌ๐
Jota suffered what is suspected to be a knee injury in the first half against Brentford. The Portugal international was stretchered off before being replaced by Salah.
Klopp said post-match that he did not know the full extent of the injury, with Jota now expected to undergo further assessment in the coming days. The Reds boss was not optimistic about the severity of the injury, though.

โDiogo looks probably the worst,” said Klopp on February 17. “I didnโt see it back but I heard the pictures didnโt look great. We have to see there.”
But Jurgen Klopp has been left counting the cost of Saturdayโs trip to Brentford, where his side – who did at least have Mohamed Salah back in the fold – ran out comfortable 4-1 winners to maintain their title lead but saw Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones all suffer injuries to follow the surprise absence of Alisson Becker.
The key quartet have each now been added to an already lengthy list of Reds absentees that Klopp will be desperate to see shorten quickly with the all-important run-in approaching.
Here is all the latest Liverpool injury news and return dates…
Darwin Nunez
The Uruguayan scored his 13th goal of the season with an outrageous lob against Brentford but later picked up a knock and was replaced by Cody Gakpo at half-time of a one-sided affair at the Gtech Community Stadium.
โDarwin, we took off because he felt really a little but that was obviously today enough to immediately push the brake and thatโs what we did, so we took him off and brought Cody on and that worked out really well,โ Klopp said.
Nunezโs issue sounds initially like the least serious of the three players taken off on Saturday, though Klopp will still be anxiously awaiting an update this week.
Potential return date: Unknown, pending further assessment
Diogo Jota
Klopp will be very concerned about Jota, who was stretchered off just before the break at Brentford after suffering a nasty-looking knee injury during a challenge with Bees captain Christian Norgaard.
โDiogo looks probably the worst; I didnโt see it back but I heard the pictures didnโt look great as well, so we have to see there,โ the German admitted after the game.
The latest reports from Portuguese outlet Record on Sunday claimed that Jota has avoided a season-ending injury that could have seen him miss this summerโs European Championship with Portugal, but still faces around two months on the sidelines with likely posterior cruciate ligament damage.
Potential return date: April 2024
Expected return date: Unknown
Curtis Jones
Jones also suffered an injury during the first half against Brentford and was substituted in place of Ryan Gravenberch.
โCurtis got a knock on the lower part of his shin, above the ankle,” said Klopp on February 17.
“We will see what that means. Itโs what he felt but he wasnโt 100% sure. That Curtis cannot play on tells you it must be something because he would have played on at all costs actually.
โYeah (heโs on crutches), but thatโs normal. Iโve not spoken to him, I donโt have time. I get carried around the stadium for interviews
Expected return date: Unknown
Darwin Nunez
Nunez scored Liverpool’s opening goal against Brentford but was substituted at half-time in place of Cody Gakpo.
โDarwin, we took off because he said he feels something a little,” said Klopp on February 17. “Today that was enough to immediately push the brake and thatโs what we did.
โWe took him off, brought on Cody and that worked really well. Thatโs not great. We can talk about that part of the game, thatโs really not good but we cannot change that anymore.”
Expected return date: Unknown
Alisson Becker
Alisson missed Liverpool’s win over Brentford with a hamstring injury. The goalkeeper has now missed the past two Reds matches, after not being involved in last week’s win over Burnley due to illness.
โAli was ill last week and injured this week,โ said Klopp on February 17. โNo other ideas behind it (starting Caoimhin Kelleher). If he hadnโt been ill and hadnโt been injured now, Ali would have played.
โWe will see how long Ali is out but Caoimhin is exceptional and today it was an performance.
Expected return date: Unknown
undefined
Trent Alexander-Arnold
Alexander-Arnold missed Liverpool’s win over Brentford with a knee injury. The right-back suffered discomfort in his knee during last week’s victory over Burnley and was substituted at half-time.
The Reds vice-captain now faces a spell on the sidelines and has already been ruled out of Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final against Chelsea next Sunday.
Expected return date: Early March
Dominik Szoboszlai
Szoboszlai has missed Liverpool’s last three Premier League matches with a hamstring injury. The Hungary international first suffered the injury on New Year’s Day against Newcastle.
Szoboszlai made his return against Chelsea on January 31 but has now missed the games against Arsenal, Burnley and Brentford through injury. The midfielder remains a doubt for the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea next Sunday.
