Latest Liverpool transfer news and gossip as the Reds have several decisions to make before the summer transfer window closes Anthony Gordon of Newcastle United

Liverpool are facing several important decisions in the final days of the summer transfer window. The Reds have until 11pm on Friday to complete their business before the window slams shut until the New Year.

Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to be the first signing of the Arne Slot era at Anfield. A deal worth £30 million has been agreed for the shot-stopper to sign for the Reds, the ECHO understands, with the stopper undergoing a medical before spending the remainder of the season on loan at the Mestalla.

It remains to be seen if Liverpool will agree any more deals before the transfer window closes. Regardless, the Reds cannot escape the reality that some decisions will inevitably need to be made in the coming days.

Anthony Gordon

Liverpool were interested in signing Anthony Gordon earlier in the summer, with a £75 million deal agreed. However, Newcastle pulled the plug on the move and the forward has since remained at St James’ Park.

Rumours have been swirling ever since the end of June about whether or not Liverpool would try again to sign the former Everton star. With the transfer window set to close soon, a decision is needed on whether the Reds will approach Newcastle once again or end their interest in the player.

Joe Gomez

As part of the deal to sign Gordon, it was also agreed that Joe Gomez would join Newcastle in a £45 million move. The transfer ended up not happening, and the centre-back remains part of Slot’s squad at Liverpool.

That has not stopped rumours that Gomez could still leave Anfield before the transfer window closes. The Reds now have a decision to make over whether to allow the centre-back to leave the club or remain a member of the squad.

New centre-back?

Centre-back is an area of the squad that Liverpool are rumoured to be interested in strengthening all summer. The departure of Joel Matip as a free agent has only intensified that speculation, but as things stand no new additions have been added to the position.

Several central defenders have been tentatively linked with Liverpool this summer, but almost all have either joined new clubs or committed their futures to their current teams. If the Reds are looking to sign a new centre-back, a decision will need to be made soon if they want to bring such a player to Anfield before the window closes.

Martin Zubimendi alternative

Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi was the number one target for Liverpool, before he decided to remain at his boyhood club. Now there are doubts over whether or not an alternative will be targeted.
