UPDATE NOW : Liverpool transfer news LIVE: Federico Chiesa talks, Anthony Gordon reality, Joe Gomez exit

Published

on

Liverpool transfer news as Federico Chiesa becomes a possible target, the reality about Anthony Gordon emerges, and there are more rumors about a Joe Gomez exit.

Federico Chiesa has emerged as a potential target for Liverpool.

Federico Chiesa could be heading to Liverpool this week. The Italy international has entered the final year of his contract at Juventus, and it’s believed the Italian team will let him leave for a bargain fee of around $17m (£13m/€15m).

Yet that makes a transfer for Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon seem extremely unlikely. At this stage of the summer, the England ace would be really difficult to capture. He will, though, almost certainly be a transfer target in the future as long as he doesn’t pen a new contract at St James’ Park.

Giorgi Mamardashvili looks set to be the first signing of the Arne Slot era, although he’s expected to immediately return to Valencia on a season-long loan deal. And what about exits? Joe Gomez is expected to be a target for Crystal Palace if Marc Guehi joins Newcastle.

With only a few days left of the summer window, it could be a busy week for sporting director Richard Hughes. Stick with is and we’ll have all of the latest updates as they arrive. For now, the main focus is Chiesa!

Nico Williams makes transfer stance clear

Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams only wants to move to Barcelona when he leaves Athletic Bilbao, according to HITC. Liverpool has previously been linked with a move.

Arsenal and Chelsea, meanwhile, have been linked with a potential swoop for the 21-year-old winger before the Friday transfer deadline. Getting a move to Barcelona, however, might prove tricky given the club’s economic situation.

ESPN’s Mark Ogden believes there is a small chance that Real Madrid could swoop for Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold before the transfer deadline.

“I think it’s very, very slim but if Real Madrid make a big offer then Liverpool might have to consider it,” he said. “But I think Real Madrid’s idea is to wait until the end of the season when maybe Dani Carvajal moves on and Trent is out of contract.”

More likely, though, the player will enter into contract negotiations over the next couple of months. Tying Alexander-Arnold down for the next few years needs to be a major priority for Liverpool to get sorted.

Why Federico Chiesa move to Juventus didn’t work out

Federico Chiesa isn’t an obvious Liverpool target but he could be an opportunistic deal waiting to happen. Why didn’t it work out for him at Juventus, though?

“First of all, his bad injury [serious knee injury suffered in January 2022] was a major setback,” Stefano Buonfino told Transfermarkt. “And even when he got back, it affected him for many months. Chiesa didn’t seem to fully trust his body after the injury.

“Then he played most of the time as a support striker, which isn’t his best position because he’s clearly better as a winger.

“Because of these factors, Chiesa isn’t considered as one of Juventus’ best players, and he has a very high salary that they don’t want to pay as they adapt their approach.”

Anthony Gordon transfer latest

Liverpool likes Newcastle United and England ace Anthony Gordon but a move looks unlikely this summer. As long as he doesn’t sign a contract extension, though, he could become easier to attain in the future.

Federico Chiesa is the name on most people’s lips today. Gordon, though, would be a possible option for the future and he would be a much safer (if much more expensive) bet.

Federico Chiesa “wants Barcelona”

According to Diario SPORT, Federico Chiesa would rather join Barcelona than sign for Liverpool this summer. The Juventus winger, who has attracted interest from several clubs, would prefer a switch to Spain.

The Reds are said to be considering a move for the 26-year-old as a cut-price opportunity in the market. Chiesa has a poor injury record but for a low enough fee and wage packet, he could be worth the gamble.

Squad numbers available to Federico Chiesa

There is no guarantee that Federico Chiesa will move to Liverpool before the transfer deadline, but which numbers are available to him if the Italian winger does complete the switch?

The lowest number available is six (left vacant by Thiago Alcantara) but forward normally go higher than that. The numbers 12 to 16 are all available as well as 22 to 25.

He wears number seven at Juventus but has previously worn the numbers 22 and 25. For the Italian national team, he has usually worn the number 14.

Liverpool has inquired about Federico

Arne Slot was asked about the future of Wataru Endo after Liverpool rejected an offer worth around $18m (£14m/€17m) from Marseille for him earlier in the summer.

“It is not always about the player himself, it’s also about the competition he faces,” Slot said. “We have many good midfielders like we have many good players.

“We are really pleased with the way Wata is training for us, but he has some good competition and I think you saw [vs. Brentford] a good performance from all three midfielders.

“So it is not always about him it is also about the others. He will be important for us during the season because we need all of them; we all know how long a season can be over here and how many players you need. And he is one of them that we are going to need in the upcoming season.”

Endo got his first minutes of the season late on against Brentford.

Liverpool unveils new Nike third kit

It’s another new kit day for Liverpool, with the away strip potentially set to get its first outing of the season on Sunday during the fixture against Manchester United.

I think the third kit, a white number, is probably the nicest of the lot! Simple, clean, and white is always nice. Let us know what you make of it in the comment

Xabi Alonso wants Liverpool transfer

Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton could move to Bayer Leverkusen on loan, according to The Times. He also has interest from the likes of Atalanta and RB Leipzig.

The Reds set a price tag of around $26m (£20m/€24m) for Morton earlier in the summer. He has not featured in either matchday squad in the Premier League so far and could do with a move to continue his progression.

Giorgi Mamardashvili transfer latest

Liverpool is set to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili this summer and then loan him back to the La Liga side for the upcoming campaign.

According to Super Deporte, the Reds have agreed to pay him around $86k (£65k/€77k) per week to become a Liverpool player. He could one day take over from Alisson Becker as the number one on Merseyside.

Joe Gomez to Crystal Palace?

The Marc Guehi transfer saga finally appears to be inching towards a conclusion, and it has plenty of implications for Liverpool.

Newcastle is rumored to be approaching Crystal Palace’s reported gargantuan asking price of close to $90m for the 24-year-old England international.

The price is partially inflated because Chelsea still holds a 20 per cent sell-on clause, capping the amount Palace can recoup. Additionally, the South London outfit would like an alternative one of Palace’s top choices is Liverpool defender Joe Gomez. He is a player that the Reds want to keep but could push for an exit in search of more minutes.
