UPDATE : Liverpool explain why they haven’t named three first-team stars in Champions League squad

Liverpool have named a strong squad for their first foray into the new Champions League format with Arne Slot but here are some notable absences from the list-A squad of players

There is little reason for the former Feyenoord boss to spring a surprise, but there are some names that are conspicuous in their absence. Conor Bradley, Jarell Quansah and Harvey Elliott have not been named on the Red’s A-list.

It is nothing to worry about however. Liverpool have already qualified the trio will be included on the club’s B-list, which means they do not need to be counted among the restrictions put in place on the A-list.

The initial squad can have no more than 25 players, and eight of those spaces are allocated for ‘locally trained players’. Out of the eight, half then must be ‘club-trained’.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson Becker, Federico Chiesa, Luis Diaz, Waturo Endo, Cody Gakpo, Joe Gomez, Ryan Gravenberch, Thomas Hill, Vitezslav Jaros, Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota, Caoimhin Kelleher, Ibrahima Konate, Alexis Mac Allister, Tyler Morton, Amara Nallo, Darwin Nunez, Trey Nyoni, Andy Robertson, Mo Salah, Dominic Szoboszlai, Kostas Tsimikas, Virgil Van Dijk.

The Reds will face AC Milan and Bologna, RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, Real Madrid, Girona, Lille and PSV, in the league stage of the competition. They will be required to finish in the top eight of a 36-team league to guarantee qualification to the last-16.
