‘Excellent’ midfielder who Liverpool reportedly wanted has just agreed to sign for Atletico Madrid

The January transfer window is now approaching its final stages. It’s around this part of the window that things will start to heat-up.

Clubs will have been working behind the scenes on new transfer deals, and now they will want to wrap those up and accelerate forward. This might be the case with the latest Liverpool target, who is reportedly on the move.

Although it seems Liverpool won’t win the race for his signature. Instead, he will be moving to a rival of sorts in Atletico Madrid. Liverpool will be disappointed to miss out, especially as he is a highly regarded talent in European football.

Liverpool transfer news as  change is on the horizon at Anfield with a new head coach at the forefront

Arne Slot could look to bring Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida to Liverpool with him

There is trepidation but also excitement building at Liverpool over what might follow Jurgen Klopp’s incredible tenure at the club. The German leaves the Reds after almost nine years in the summer and a new chapter will begin.

Feyenoord boss Arne Slot is the frontrunner to take over at Anfield and it’s understood that he would welcome the opportunity of a move to the Premier League.

Slot’s possible arrival will be one of a list of changes at Liverpool. After years of ‘Gegenpressing’ and high-tempo football under Klopp, the Dutchman’s slightly different style weighs heavy on a 4-2-3-1 formation but with more reliance on the wingers to create chances.

Liverpool are at the start of a fresh era at Anfield and a change at the top of the Premier League could be on the horizon

Salah and Van Dijk are replaced

Key to success at Liverpool over the next three years is how the Reds perform in the summer transfer windows. This will be as much about keeping players as it will be selling them.

Keeping players like Trent Alexander-Arnold for the challenge will help create a familiar base from which the club can move forward. Some first-team members will need to be replaced in the near future too like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

How they replace them may not be a concern for this summer but the plans should be put in place now to avoid trouble down the line. Crysencio Summerville and Leny Yoro look like ideal candidates who could be targeted this summer with a view to taking their place from 2025 onwards.
