Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has been speaking about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s start to the season after Paul Scholes questioned whether he ‘doesn’t like’ the right-back

Arne Slot feels Trent Alexander-Arnold is now ready to play full matches
Arne Slot says Trent Alexander-Arnold is now ready to play 90 minutes amid suggestions that the Dutchman ‘doesn’t like’ the Liverpool vice-captain.

Alexander-Arnold, 25, has grown into a hugely important player for the Reds since breaking into the senior ranks during Jurgen Klopp’s premiership but has been substituted in all three of Slot’s matches at the helm so far.

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has since questioned whether or not Slot is a fan of the right-back, saying: “Do you think Slot likes him? Because watching that game [against Manchester United], every time he gave the ball away, he’s [Slot] shaking his head, kept looking away [and] turning around to his bench.”

Scholes added: “Every time when he was trying his long balls, which he can do brilliantly, he kept shaking his head and turning around and I thought f***ing hell, I’m not sure he likes him.”

But Slot has scotched talk of an issue and explained the decision to bring Conor Bradley on late in games has been about managing fitness rather than anything more sinister.

Speaking in his press conference on Friday, Slot said of Alexander-Arnold: “He proved he could play 90 [minutes] but maybe before that as well, he became tired against Ipswich but two games afterwards so he is ready to play 90. Sometimes it’s about having someone like [Conor] Bradley who can do the job well too.
