Liverpool confirm KEY signing as post-Jurgen Klopp reshuffle
The departure of Jurgen Klopp didn’t just mark the end of an Anfield stay for the German.
Nor just for his assistant manager Pep Lijnders who secured his first managerial job at Red Bull Salzburg this summer.
Klopp’s farewell at the end of last season was also a goodbye for fellow Germans Andreas Kornmayer, the long-standing Head of Fitness and Conditioning, and Andreas Schlumberger, the Head of Recovery and Performance, also departed.
Since then, Liverpool have made a number of adjustments to their performance and medical department, which is now led by Dr. Jonathan Power.
Liverpool hire new first-team doctor
Ruben Peeters, Liverpool’s new lead physical performance coach, arrived with Arne Slot to fill the void of the departing staff.
Power, who became a member of the club in April 2023 as a Team Doctor, will assume strategic responsibility for a unified department.
Another new hire has been Dr. Amit Pannu as the club’s First Team Doctor. He joins the club after seven years of employment with Derby County according to the Training Ground Guru.
Liverpool have promoted Conall Murtagh to Head of Physical Performance. The UEFA A Licence holder and former Northern Ireland U21 player began as an Academy Fitness Coach in July 2012 and was elevated to first team duties in 2017.
The club have also opted to divide their physios into performance and medical. Lee Nobes has taken the role as Head Rehab Physio while Chris Morgan has become Head Performance Physio.
Liverpool’s current injury list
The new-look department’s first patient after the Premier League season commenced was Curtis Jones, who sustained a groin injury that kept him out for three games. The midfielder made his return to the team in last week’s defeat to Nottingham Forest.
Harvey Elliott also remains sidelined for the foreseeable future with a fractured foot picked up on international duty with England U21s.
The latest injury update provided by Arne Slot on Friday morning ahead of his side’s game with Bournemouth on Saturday is that Alisson Becker was a doubt to train on Friday afternoon due to a muscle injury. The Brazilian indeed missed the session with Caoimhin Kelleher on standby to make his first start this season.
