The latest Liverpool transfer news and rumours as Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze – wanted by rivals Manchester United – emerges as a potential target for top Premier League clubs

Liverpool had a quiet summer when it comes to transfers, but it’s unlikely that future summer windows will follow in that suit. The Reds agreed deals for Federico Chiesa  and Giorgi Mamardashvili before the transfer window closed with the latter spending the remainder of this season on loan at the club he was signed from – Valencia.

The result of the window meant that Chiesa was, effectively, their only new addition to the squad for the 2024/25 season. Liverpool have the chance to change that when the January transfer window opens in the New Year.

In terms of which players the Reds should target, midfield could be an area of the squad in need of reinforcements. It’s well known Liverpool wanted to sign Martin Zubimendi – from Real Sociedad –  only  for the  Spanish  international  to stay  with his boyhood  club and reject a move to Anfield

during the summer, while there were tentative reports claiming that Eberechi Eze could be a target. The rumours never gained much momentum, though, with the England starlet remaining at Crystal Palace despite strong links to Manchester City.

According to the  it’s Manchester United that are now considering a move for Eze. The report claims that the Old Trafford club have identified Eze as a player of interest.

It’s thought that Eze will have a release clause in his contract worth £68million, which can be activated in 2025. At that point, Liverpool will have a greater understanding of what their squad needs are when it comes to identifying reinforcements.

One question that will be answered by next summer is will  Mohamed Salah still be a Liverpool player. The Egypt superstar is out of contract at the end of the season, and recently stated in a Sky Sports interview that Liverpool are yet to approach him over putting pen-to-paper over fresh terms.

The overwhelming majority of Liverpool fans will want the club and Salah to reach an agreement on an extension in the weeks and months ahead. However, if that doesn’t happen, then the Reds will need a plan of how to replace one of the club’s greatest ever goal-scorers.

Could Eze be a player that Liverpool look to target? If the reports about the release clause are true, the chance to sign the versatile playmaker for £68million could be an opportunity worth pursuing.

Eze has Premier League experience and would certainly be a valuable addition to the Liverpool squad were he to move to Anfield. It will be difficult to replace Salah, and there’s arguably no player currently in world football who would be able to do that single-handedly, although Eze is a player who would get into the starting line-up at most top-flight teams – including Liverpool.
