OPINION: Pedro Neto signs, Merino secured and Nketiah sold – Dream Arsenal transfer window conclusion Pedro Neto and Mikel Merino on’s look at a dream end to the summer transfer window for Arsenal
Arsenal are running out of time to complete any final deals this summer with just over three weeks remaining in the summer transfer window. The Premier League will be kicking off next week making the final fortnight of August extremely hectic for clubs to do the deals they need.
The window ends slightly earlier than usual this summer on August 30 and the Gunners will play their final match before the September international break against Brighton the day after. A very strange but interesting dynamic that could see a deadline day signing brought into the team the following day.
With that in mind, football.london takes a look at what a dream end to the window would look like for the Gunners. Both incomings and outgoings are in focus with plenty of movement still in the pipeline.
The priority for the club remains the central midfield and ensuring that quality is added to the side. Mikel Merino has dominated the talk and so far the club are yet to make an official offer for the Spaniard but the hope remains this is one move that will eventually happen.
The Real Sociedad midfielder has the potential to be a big part of the Arsenal starting XI and despite prior thoughts that improving the ceiling of the side might be challenging, both Merino and Riccardo Calafiori do just that. Finding another player of that ilk will be very tricky.
However, a forward signing in a dream world would still, for me, not be a centre-forward. Simply because even in my wildest dreams this market has not shown to contain the striker which pushes the needle for the Gunners and guarantees a significant improvement for the price of those respective players.
players like Leandro Trossard have been important depth, Arsenal need another pacey natural winger and Neto provides that. You could argue it is also a dream for him to stay fit, which I empathise with, but without the necessity to play every week it could work.
Moving on Reiss Nelson, Eddie Nketiah and Aaron Ramsdale for good fees too will open up the freedom to invest even more freely too. The club have worked to comply with Profit and Sustainability Regulations but selling both academy graduates would represent more pure profit on top of the Emile Smith Rowe sale.
If Ramsdale does go, a goalkeeper will be needed. Joan Garcia has drawn plenty of attention and the young Spaniard might indeed be the perfect understudy to Raya and work in an all-Spanish group with compatriot goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana.
