Arsenal star Martin Odegaard showed his class and leadership skills with a small moment taken out of his day on international duty with Norway. At just 24-years-old, the wisdom of the midfielder has shone through in recent the past few years, having taken up captaincy responsibilities for both club and country.

While perhaps not viewed as an old-school wearer of the armband, Odegaard has consistently shown his ability to set standards, while thinking of others. It wasn’t long into his Arsenal career that he was handed the captaincy, showing his impact in that short time, having already been the Norwegian national team captain.

In an interview with Marca earlier this year, Mikel Arteta discussed the impact of the playmaker, saying: “His self-demand is brutal. He understands everything very well and learns quickly. We help him by giving him responsibility and confidence by making him a captain. I told him: ‘with this [role] will come more demands and your ability to transmit will be the key. Be you.’”

There have already been moments of class in the season itself with his own teammates, constantly thinking of how he can better them. This was clearly seen in the clash with Bournemouth, where the side were already leading the game and won a penalty in the second half.

Gabriel Jesus was set to take the spot-kick, but Odegaard was spotted having a conversation with the striker, who handed the ball to Kai Havertz instead. The Germany international had yet to score a goal before this point and was under scrutiny for performances, but breaking his duck with the goal will no doubt have helped.
