Liverpool kept pace with Premier League leaders Arsenal with a 2-0 win at Sheffield United, with goals from Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszali sending the Reds back to within two points of the Gunners.

A big week for Liverpool continued as they played the first of two away games this week, having picked up a dramatic late win over Fulham on Sunday. A tricky trip to Crystal Palace still awaits on Saturday, before a couple of huge tests at home which could demonstrate Liverpool’s title credentials.

Jürgen Klopp will already know his side faces a dead-rubber in next week’s final Europa League group stage encounter against Union SG. That could prove crucial for resting some of his big players, with Manchester United and Arsenal lying in wait afterward

If Liverpool can pick up another win at Selhurst Park at the weekend and keep pace with leaders Arsenal, those two games will provide the Reds with the opportunity to potentially head into Christmas top of the table

Of course, it is Arsenal that currently leads the way following its dramatic last-minute win over Luton on Tuesday. The Gunners continue to pick up victories despite not necessarily being at their best, which is something of an ominous sign.
