Musiala recalls being impressed by ‘amazing’ Thiago technique
Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala was left in awe of Thiago Alcantara’s technique when he first moved to Bayern Munich – with the German midfielder rumoured to perhaps one day be reunited with the Spaniard as he’s liked with a switch to Liverpool.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who made the move to the Bundesliga champions in June 2019 after stints with Southampton and Chelsea’s academy, has less than three years left on his current deal at the Allianz Arena and reports in Germany on Tuesday have named Liverpool as one club keeping on eye on his situation.

Musiala’s camp are yet to hold talks with Bayern over extending his stay in Bavaria, according to BILD’s Christian Falk.

Speaking to BBC Sport in 2021, though, Musiala, who has already represented Germany at two international tournaments, recalled the first times he trained with Thiago prior to the midfielder’s transfer to Liverpool in September 2020.

“When I first came in it was Thiago [who caught the eye in training],” said Musiala. “His passing technique was just amazing to watch but it’s a lot of the players. Lewandowski, it’s his finish and stuff, or Joshua Kimmich’s technique as well. It’s all top.”

Despite not making his debut for Bayern until June 2020, and therefore only enjoying three months alongside the Spaniard in the first team as the German giants recorded an impressive Bundesliga, Champions League and DFB Pokal treble, Musiala regularly trained with Hansi Flick’s senior side throughout the 2019-2020 campaign.

Elaborating on his move to the Allianz Arena, Musiala said: “Bayern Munich came forward with a good plan on how I was going to gradually go from age group to age group but made sure I would not be rushed. I just trusted what they said and went with it.

“Now it just feels very comfortable. At the start I was very nervous and if you just look at the [star] players then, yeah, you see Robert Lewandowski regularly, it’s not normal!

“And then after a while, it just becomes normal and I can say they are kind of my friends now.”

Of course, Thiago’s stay at Liverpool could end before Musiala potentially joins Liverpool, with the Spaniard’s contract at Anfield set to expire in June 2024.
