LFC TRANSFER NEWS LIVE : Trent Alexander-Arnold

Trent Alexander-Arnold may have endured a difficult start to the season with Liverpool, but Barcelona look set to offer him a way out of Anfield at the end of the season.

Whether Alexander-Arnold wants to leave or not is another matter, but the fact remains that Liverpool have got off to their worst ever Premier League start under Jurgen Klopp this season, and the right-back has also fallen down England’s pecking order.

Former Chelsea and France defender Frank Leboeuf said this week that Trent had “Championship level defending,” but that might not be off too much concern to Barcelona who, like Liverpool, traditionally spend most of their games on the front foot.

‘€80m bid’

“Barcelona want to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold, on a contract until 2025, in 2024, to be their big signing and complete the squad next season,” reports Carpetas Blaugranas’ Gerard Romero. “The club would offer approximately €80 million for the full-back.”

An elite footballer if not defender, Alexander-Arnold has the highest number for progressive passes and shot-creating actions among defenders across the Premier League this season.

He first caught Barcelona’s eye in May 2019 when his quick corner for a Divock Origi goal helped Liverpool overhaul a 3-0 first-leg deficit to win 4-3 on aggregate in the Champions League semi-finals, with the Reds going onto lift that year’s trophy.

Barcelona need a long-term solution at right-back. Whilst they spent €50m on Sevilla’s Jules Kounde this summer, the Frenchman prefers playing at centre-back. Hector Bellerin was picked up from Arsenal on a free transfer, but the former La Masia academy player has onl;y signed a one-year contra ct at Camp Nou.
