Latest Liverpool transfer news and gossip as Arne Slot faces a busy summer In his first transfer window as head coach at Anfield since replacing

Jurgen Klopp

Anthony Gordon of England looks on at full-time following the team’s draw in the UEFA EURO 2024 group stage match between England and Liverpool could have a busy end to the summer transfer window if reports are to be believed.

Whether it be potential new additions or existing members of the squad departing, not a day goes by when a new Reds transfer rumour isn’t making headlines. Arne Slot is still in the early days of his tenure as head coach and will be busy assessing his squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

The Reds still have several weeks to complete any deals before the transfer window slams shut until the New Year. With that in mind, the ECHO has taken a look at what may be considered a dream scenario for Liverpool by the time the end of August rolls around.

Anthony Gordon signs

There has been a lot of talk about Liverpool potentially making a move to sign Anthony Gordon this summer. Newcastle only signed the forward from Everton in January last year but there are already suggestions he could return to Merseyside.

Newcastle’s financial situation intensified the rumours that Gordon could even have completed a move to Liverpool last weekend. That did not happen, but the speculation suggesting he could still be a target for the Reds has not gone away.

Adding Gordon to Liverpool’s squad would certainly provide a valuable option in the final third for Slot in his first season at Anfield. The main issue will be convincing Newcastle to get a deal over the line, as well as agreeing the appropriate fee.

Trio sign new contracts

It’s not just signing new players that will be on the agenda at Liverpool, but also keeping their stars at the club.

Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all out of contract in 2025. The final year of their respective deals is now underway, and it remains to be seen if any will negotiate extensions in the near future.

While adding new players to the squad is important, Liverpool and Slot will know that Salah, Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold are three of the most valuable members of the current group. Ensuring their futures remain at Anfield beyond the next 12 months will be vital, or else there will be even more unnecessary noise of potential departures.

New centre-back targeted

Centre-back is an area of the squad that could see Liverpool bring in reinforcements. The Reds will be without Joel Matip following his departure as a free agent this summer, and there have been frequent rumours of a replacement being targeted.

Liverpool currently have Van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah as their centre-back options. A host of names have been linked as potential targets, but as things stand there is no sign of a new addition being added to the squad – but there is plenty of time for that to change.
