The Argentine’s are rightfully the favourites though, and it was Alexis Mac Allister and co who got the tournament underway in Atlanta in the early hours of Friday morning.

As he has become accustomed to doing, Mac Allister started the game against Canada and went on to play the full

The Liverpool man even had a hand in the opening goal, going in bravely at the feet of Canada goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau to lay off a tap-in for Julian Alvarez.

According to Argentine outlet TyC Sports though, this was only enough to see Mac Allister score a six out of 10.

But despite the relatively low rating, the 25-year-old is actually given a good write-up. Although he’s said to have ‘taken a long time to get into the game,’ once he did, Mac Allister is termed ‘eye-catching’ and ‘effective.’

His efforts in setting up Alvarez’s goal are said to have been ‘key’ as he went from the ‘lowest to highest’ in the game.

Who’s next in action at the Copa America?

Mac Allister has every right to be pleased with his night’s work. It is great to have a Liverpool player consistently turning out for Argentina.

  • Unfortunately, there are no more Reds playing over the weekend. Fans will have to wait until Monday to see Darwin Nunez.

Nunez’s Uruguay take on Panama at 2am on Monday morning, with most UK-based supporters likely to be fast asleep by that point.

Luis Diaz and Colombia then play at 11pm on Monday, Paraguay their opponents, before Alisson Becker’s Brazil face Costa Rica at 2am on Tuesday morning.

Lots to look forward to then, and a great way to kick things off for Macca.
