Arsenal have a clear option to offer competition to Bukayo Saka on the right-wing in the form of recently linked Wolves star Pedro Neto. The Portuguese forward has impressed in the past few weeks, managing to find an attacking threat with consistency that is catching the eye.

The Gunners have been following a switch for the 23-year-old for a few seasons now, but for one reason or another, haven’t yet made their move. One possibility could be down to injury troubles, with the winger having suffered some big absences in the past couple of years.

There will be many hopes that those injuries are behind him and to come is simply scoring plenty of goals and assists on the biggest of occasions. It remains to be seen where that will be, given the recent speculation surrounding interest from Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal.

However, the Gunners have two clear reasons to pounce on their interest on Neto over the upcoming January transfer window. The first is the clear quality that the youngster has shown and given his age, there is plenty of room for potential improvement in the years that follow.

The second reason surrounds a talent of their own in Saka, who has been instrumental to the Gunners making a return to the top of the Premier League. There have understandably been some concerns surrounding the winger’s minutes that he plays, which increases the risk of injury.

That risk has been shown in recent weeks after the England international suffered three separate injury concerns that resulted in having to be substituted early on two occasions and then missing the Manchester City clash altogether. It shows just how much a player like Neto may be required to solve those injury worries.

Former defender Mikael Silvestre has also given his view on the potential move, telling bettingexpert.com: “He [Saka] needs to be rested. That’s important. He needs to be protected.” It could be one of the areas where the manager could be looking at bringing someone in.

“Especially because of the schedule in England with the three domestic competitions, the Champions League and on top of that, you put England games, that’s a lot of football. It will make sense to have someone come in if it’s not from within the team.”

“Yeah, Pedro Neto is a good player, and he’s had a good start to the season. He’s very direct, creating chances, and he’s a good player. He could be one backup option for Saka.”

It remains to be seen whether Wolves’ demands plus the expensive nature of the January transfer window will allow for a move to happen. However, it’s appearing increasingly clear that a right-wing option may well be on the mind of the head coach in the near future.
