GOOD NEWS: Martín Zubimendi – The SPECTACULAR No.6 midfield target who can kick-start Arne Slot’s Liverpool era Agreed Move

Speculation has grown, since it was revealed that Liverpool have identified a target in the number 6 position, as to who the overseas player could be.

Martín Zubimendi is one name that has gathered a lot of momentum and has many Liverpool fans excited and its clear to see why.

Zubimendi is someone the Reds have been monitoring for a while and he thrust himself into the spotlight by shining after replacing an injured Rodri at half time in the final of the European Championship.

Strong in the air and neat with his passes, Zubimendi could be the perfect anchor in midfield for Arne Slot’s Liverpool team.

Who is Martín Zubimendi?

Zubimendi plays for Real Sociedad, where he came through the academy, and has also featured 10 times for Spain.

Although the 25-year-old missed the end of the season with a hamstring problem, he has enjoyed a fairly injury free career so far, and played more than 2,500 minutes in each of the last three LaLiga campaigns.

Zubimendi has received lots of plaudits from Spain and was even named by legendary defensive midfielder Sergio Busquets as his potential successor at Barcelona. The World Cup winner, who was capped 143 times by Spain described Zubimendi as “spectacular” and compared him to Man City’s number 16 Rodri.

How much would Zubimendi cost?

FSG have shown that the holding midfield role is one they are willing to spend big on, with a British record transfer bid of £111 million submitted for Moisés Caicedo last summer before the Ecuadorian chose to sign for Chelsea.

Zubimendi is available for a lot less than that, with a reported release clause of around £50m.

A new holding midfielder was one of the priorities for Liverpool this summer and, with a lot of interest building in current option Wataru Endō, now may be the perfect time to strike.

Arsenal and Barcelona are also reportedly interested in the Euro 2024 winner but the Gunners seem to have prioritised his compatriot Mikel Merino and Barca are in the process of finalising a deal for Dani Olmo so Liverpool could have a clear run.

Zubimendi could be the number 6 signing that finally kickstarts Liverpool’s first transfer window under Slot.
