GOOD NEWS: Luis Diaz back in Liverpool training ahead of Luton: ‘Availability all about him’

Jurgen Klopp says Luis Diaz will decide whether he returns to the Liverpool squad for Sunday’s Premier League trip to Luton Town.

The Colombia attacker has missed the last two matches following the kidnapping of his father Luis Manuel in his homeland last Saturday.

However, after being granted some leave, Diaz has trained in recent days as he anxiously awaits developments.

The Colombian government said on Thursday that a unit belonging to the National Liberation Army (ELN) was responsible for the kidnapping. Hundreds of police and soldiers have been deployed to free him.

“Luis was in training two days ago, yesterday he did a session and today he will be with the team,” said Klopp.

“If he feels right, he will be here. You could see when he’s with the boys it’s fine, but you could also see that he hasn’t slept a lot. We have to see how he is and go from there.

“The news from Colombia I just get forwarded to me, but anything that gives us a bit of hope is good. We are waiting for some really good news.

“I cannot say what we will do (for Sunday). We just wait. It’s all about him, whether he makes himself available or not. I will not force anything.”

Meanwhile, Klopp does not expect to have midfielder Thiago back available until January.

The Spain international has not featured since April due to a hip injury which required surgery in the summer and has suffered a number of setbacks in his recovery.

Klopp said: “With Thiago, it’s an ongoing thing and we cannot put any kind of pressure on that.

“We expect him to be back around probably the start of the new year. I would say that’s probably a realistic thing to try and I can’t wait, to be honest, to have him back. He is just exceptional.”

Fellow midfielder Stefan Bajcetic also remains sidelined. He returned from an adductor injury in September but then damaged his calf.

Klopp added: “Stefan’s quality, potential, talent, everybody could see, but the body was not ready yet.

“They are still growing these boys and they are all different. There is no timescale on Stefan. We just have to wait. We know how good he is and now we have to make sure we help him get a body to show that.”
