Anthony Gordon to Liverpool transfer latest – Newcastle stance, swap deal and player response

Liverpool transfer news as we bring you the latest on a potential move for Newcastle United and England winger Anthony Gordon

Anthony Gordon has been linked with a move to Liverpool

Anthony Gordon is one of the names to be mentioned a lot alongside Liverpool so far in the transfer window. The winger is now back from international duty, having been part of the England squad that made it to the final of Euro 2024 in Germany.

The Three Lions lost 2-1 against Spain in the final at the weekend. His involvement in the tournament has not stopped talk over his future with the Reds linked with an interest before next month’s deadline.

Gordon was a standout player for Newcastle last season after completing a £40 million move from Everton in January 2023. In 35 appearances in the Premier League, he scored 11 times and provided a further ten assists.

It’s perhaps no surprise, then, that there has been interest in him this summer. With that in mind, here is the latest on a potential Liverpool move for Gordon between now and August 31

Swap deal offer

As reported by the Echo, it was Newcastle who approached Liverpool over a possible deal for Gordon before the unofficial financial fair play deadline at the end of last month. The Reds, however, wanted to talk about a deal that involved a swap with defender Jarell Quansah.

That was the sticking point, with Liverpool having no plans to part with the 21-year-old who had a breakthrough season in 2023/24. He made a total of 33 first-team appearances and signed a new contract with the club back in May.

Newcastle warning

Speaking about Gordon, along with other players such as Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak who have been linked with a move away, Newcastle CEO Darren Eales has outlined the club’s clear stance on a sale this summer. The Magpies had to make sales before the end of last month to be compliant with Profitability and Sustainability Rules.
