BARDHI SCORES AFTER PICKFORD SAVES!

So unfortunate for Pickford and England!

North Macedonia 0-0 England
33: Atanasov commits at least his third foul of the match – a heavy tackle on Lewis – and gets away without a yellow card.
North Macedonia 0-0 England
Sky Sports’ Sam Blitz:

“That was a glorious pass from Foden, just a bit overhit.

“The Man City midfielder has been playing almost as an old-fashioned No 10, which is supposed to be going out of style at the moment.

“Could Rice-Bellingham-Foden be a potential midfield trio for Southgate at Euro 2024?”

North Macedonia 0-0 England
29: Foden tries to thread a pass through to Watkins, who just can’t reach it and the ball runs through to the goalkeeper. Close! Watkins’ movement has been good, but England haven’t looked for him often enough.
North Macedonia 0-0 England
28: England have taken the sting out of the game again with some controlled possession after that brief flurry of attacking intent from the hosts.

Did England and Maguire get away with one there?
Sky Sports News’ Rob Dorsett at the Todor Proeski National Arena:

“An awful mistake from Harry Maguire, that England are very lucky to get away with. He tries an ambitious cross-field pass which hits Enis Bardhi in the chest.

“And as Maguire tries to make amends, he eds up body-checking Alioski inside the box. The attacker goes down very easily and no penalty is given – but on another day, it might well have been. Lucky boy, Maguire.”

North Macedonia 0-0 England
25: That’s livened up the hosts and Musliu takes on Walker, who brings down the defender.

Bardhi will swing in the free-kick from the left side of the box.

It’s overhit and runs out for a goal kick.
North Macedonia 0-0 England
Sky Sports’ Sam Blitz:

“Sloppy from England there. At first glance that looked like a penalty. On second glance, perhaps Elmas makes a meal of Maguire’s contact.

“But Maguire was nowhere near the ball there. That may have been given in the Premier League.”

North Macedonia 0-0 England
Sky Sports News’ Rob Dorsett at the Todor Proeski National Arena:

“I like how cool and composed Marc Guehi looks in this England side now. He’s building up a good understanding with Harry Maguire, with the two taking up good positions, and probing away at the high press ahead of them.

“Guehi looks the natural understudy for Southgate, should Maguire or Stones be unavailable.

North Macedonia 0-0 England
23: NORTH MACEDONIA WANT A PENALTY!

Really sloppy play from Maguire sees his pass intercepted by Miovski inside the England half.

The striker slips the ball wide to Elmas, who gets into the box and goes down under a challenge from Maguire. It was clumsy but the referee gives a goal kick.

The locals weren’t happy with that at all!

North Macedonia 0-0 England

“England have completed over 150 passes in the opening quarter of the game. North Macedonia’s total? 25.

“The Three Lions’ possession rises to 82 per cent. North Macedonia, who qualified for Euro 2020 remember, have barely had a sniff.”

North Macedonia 0-0 England
22: Corner to England as Foden’s cross from the left is blocked behind.

Foden takes but it’s a poor delivery and North Macedonia can clear.

North Macedonia 0-0 England
21: North Macedonia are racking up the fouls. Walker is hauled down and then Saka’s left Achilles takes a knock. The hosts are putting themselves about.

North Macedonia 0-0 England
17: YELLOW! Elmas goes into the book for saying a little too much to the referee after his side was penalised for a foul on Saka.

Alexander-Arnold swings it in from the right but the offside flag goes up.

North Macedonia 0-0 England
Sky Sports News’ Rob Dorsett at the Todor Proeski National Arena:

“Declan Rice’s luck is out again!! Lovely England move, picked him out with some space on the left corner of the box. It’s a great low strike from the Arsenal midfielder, but it smacks off the right hand post.

“This, after he scored a screamer at Wembley three nights ago, only for that one to be ruled out because Harry Kane was in an offside position.”

North Macedonia 0-0 England
15: WATKINS HEADER!

Foden swings a cross in from the left and Watkins is all alone in the area, but his header back across goal lacks power and accuracy and North Macedonia survive.

North Macedonia 0-0 England
14: RICE HITS A POST!

So close for England! Space opens up for the midfielder just outside the box and his powerful low effort comes back off the right-hand post.

North Macedonia 0-0 England
13: Watkins stretches the hosts’ defence by running in behind to latch on to Guehi’s long pass forwards.

The striker lays the ball off for Saka, who arrives in support, and he sees his shot from the edge of the box blocked.

North Macedonia 0-0 England
12: Grealish is fine to continue and England have possession again. At times they’re passing it around at a walking pace.

North Macedonia 0-0 England
Sky Sports News’ Rob Dorsett at the Todor Proeski National Arena:

“Already, England look slicker than they did against Malta at Wembley on Friday night.

“Phil Foden was one of the few high points against Malta – now acting as a number 10, he’s linking the play up beautifully here.”

North Macedonia 0-0 England
11: Grealish is down on the turf and clutching his ankle after an off-the-ball collision. He’s not happy about it.
