Giorgi Mamardashvili makes bold Alisson claim ahead of Liverpool move

Liverpool summer signing Giorgi Mamardashvili has revealed what attracted him to the club and his plans amid competition with Alisson Becker.

Liverpool summer signing Giorgi Mamardashvili has revealed what attracted him to the club and his plans amid competition with Alisson Becker.

The Georgian shot-stopper was one of just two deals that Liverpool completed last summer.

But unlike Federico Chiesa, who joined up with his Liverpool teammates this season, Mamardashvili remained at Valencia on loan after complet reported €30 million move.

He is expected to spend the entire 2024/25 season at Mastella before joining Liverpool next season.

However, Mamardashvili knows that in joining Liverpool, he will be competing with one of the world’s best goalkeepers in Alisson Becker.

The Brazilian remains a reliable shot-stopper, and Mamardashvili will have to compete with him for a place in the starting Liverpool lineup.

There is also the ever-reliable Caoimhin Kelleher, who could still be at the club beyond next summer despite genuine interest in him from other clubs.

This means that Mamardashvili may have to battle with Alisson and Kelleher for a starting berth when he arrives next season.

However, the thought of having to fight for his place with possibly the best goalkeeper in the world does not faze him.

What Giorgi Mamardashvili said about Alisson

In an interview in his native Georgia, the 25-year-old revealed why he chose Liverpool and how he is preparing to join up with the Premier League side.

Regarding his future at Liverpool, the Mamardashvili revealed that he is studying English and following Premier League matches.

“I was attracted by the Liverpool project when the club’s representatives met with me to sign me,” he told Georgian television’s First Channel.

“I will fight for the starting goalkeeper position, even if the current goalkeeper does not leave the team,” he said, referring to Brazilian Alisson.”

While the prospect of playing for Liverpool is something that Mamardashvili is longing for, the 24-year-old revealed that he is fully focused on the job at hand with Valencia.

The La Liga club are struggling this season after winning just one of their last nine games.

With the threat of relegation looming, Mamardashvili is intent on ensuring that they remain in La Liga.

“I am fully focused, 100 percent, on helping my team keep its place in La Liga. I will work hard for that,” he added.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are expected to be without Alisson for more than a month after he suffered a muscle injury before the October international break.
