Brazil come into the match reeling, having lost their last two qualifiers to Colombia and Uruguay while drawing against Venezuela in the match before. Uruguay also beat Argentina in the last matchday, handing Argentina their first loss since their 2022 World Cup debut against Saudi Arabia. Despite the loss, Argentina is still first in CONMEBOL qualifying.
Lionel Messi is fully expected to start for the visiting side and will look to score against Brazil in an official match for the first time in his career.
