Arne Slot has reportedly pinpointed Orkun Kokcu, the Benfica midfielder, as Liverpool’s initial signing, disregarding the substantial release clause. Notably, Kokcu, who is 23 years old, served as the captain under Slot during their time together at Feyenoord

Arne Slot’s appointment as the new manager of Liverpool has been officially announced, and his immediate attention will be on the upcoming summer transfer window.

Liverpool is anticipated to be highly active in the coming months, as they aim to assemble a squad capable of challenging Manchester City and Arsenal for the title. According to reports, Slot has already identified his initial signing target.

Fotospor, a Turkish source, reports that Liverpool is interested in Benfica midfielder Orkun Kokcu.

Kokcu, who was the captain of Feyenoord under Slot before transferring to Portugal last summer, is said to have a release clause of £128m in his contract, despite moving for £21m initially.

His contract is set to expire in 2028.

In the Primeira Liga this season, the 23-year-old showcased his skills with an impressive tally of seven assists and nine goals.

Notably, four of those goals were scored in his last seven matches, highlighting his exceptional form towards the end of the campaign.

This remarkable performance coincided with a positional change, further emphasizing his versatility.

Kokcu, who can excel in various midfield positions such as No6, No8, or No10, expressed his dissatisfaction with Benfica boss Roger Schmidt in March. He voiced his frustration about not being granted the opportunity to play in his desired attacking role
