Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has called for the clash against Tottenham Hotspur to be replayed after Luis Díaz’s goal was ruled out last weekend

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could be granted his wish of a replay against Tottenham Hotspur due to a specific Premier League rule.
Spurs beat Liverpool 2-1 last Saturday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium thanks to a Joel Matip own-goal in the dying embers of the fixture, which saw the visitors reduced to nine men in the clash after Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota were both given their marching orders by referee Simon Hooper.
Despite Jones being sent off after just 26 minutes of action, Liverpool believed they had taken the lead shortly after, thanks to a well-worked move between Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz, which ended in the Columbian lashing home his effort beyond Guglielmo Vicario in the Spurs goal.

However, after an apparent check by VAR officials due to an offside, the strike was eventually ruled out, with a controversial series of events unfolding shortly after.
In the aftermath of the game, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) confirmed the wrong decision had been made due to human error, with the VAR officials believing the on-field decision given was a goal, despite the linesman previously flagging for an offside.
The audio tape of the incident has since been revealed, which reveals the error made by VAR and match officials, with Klopp commenting on the situation after Liverpool released a statement calling for ‘resolution and escalation’ after the footage was released.
“The audio didn’t change it at all. I saw the outcome, I saw a goal, and I saw it didn’t count. It’s important that we deal with it in a proper way,” Klopp said ahead of his side’s Europa League clash this week. “They didn’t do it on purpose, we should not forget that. I think a replay would be the right thing.”
According to The Mirror, the Premier League could grant Klopp his wish for a replay against Spurs, if an ‘appointed commission’ decides that the match officials breached the laws of the game when it came to their controversial decision on Diaz’s goal.
Speaking on the possibility of a replay occurring, Stephen Taylor Heath [co-head of Sports Law at JMW Solicitors] said “Rule L18 outlines that the Premier League board has the power to order a league match to be replayed provided that recommendation to that effect has been made by a commission under rule W51.
“In addition to this, under rule W1, the Premier League’s board has the power to inquire about any suspected breach of rules, including those made by a match official, while rule N4 ensures that each match official agrees to be bound by the laws of the game as well as an y protocols and FA rules.
