Big Blow Liverpool’s Thiago suffers  setback after sustaining muscle injury

Thiago

Liverpool midfielder Thiago has suffered another injury setback.

The former Spain international only made his comeback after nearly 10 months out as a late substitute in last Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Arsenal, but he’s facing another spell on the sidelines due to a muscle problem.

Thiago, who replaced Joe Gomez with five minutes remaining, complained of discomfort following the game and has undergone further assessment. It’s unclear at this stage how long he will be out for.

The 32-year-old faces an uncertain future with his contract due to expire this summer.

Thiago’s absence is a blow given that Jurgen Klopp was relishing the prospect of being able to call on his wealth of experience as Liverpool seek to maintain a challenge for glory on four fronts.

Liverpool are also set to be without Dominik Szoboszlai for Saturday’s visit of Burnley, with the Hungary international hampered by a hamstring issue. However, fellow midfielder Wataru Endo should return to action following the end of Japan’s involvement in the Asian Cup.
