Victor Osimhen dilemma hands Arsenal ‘impossible’ Viktor Gyokeres transfer boost

Arsenal are one of several Champions League sides linked with a move for Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres

Viktor Gyokeres had a stunning season in Portugal

Arsenal have been linked with signing a top-class centre-forward this summer as Mikel Arteta looks to add the firepower up front to help his side finally beat Manchester City to the Premier League title.

The Gunners  earlier this summer, with attention turning to other potential targets. The likes of Alexander Isak, Ivan Toney and Ollie Watkins have all been mentioned, along with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres.

And it now appears that Arteta’s side have been handed a boost in the race to sign Gyokeres this summer – with Napoli admitting that a deal for the forward would be “impossible”.

Napoli and Arsenal are two sides that have been touted with a move for the Sweeden international this summer – alongside Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea – after his phenomenal debut season for Sporting CP in which he scored 29 goals to help Rubin Amorim’s side with the Liga Nos title.

However, it has been claimed that any side looking to prise Gyokeres away from the Jose Alvalade Stadium will be made to cough up roughly £84m (€100m) this summer – 12 months after he joined the Portuguese outfit from Coventry City for £24m.

That, though, has seemingly priced 2022-23 Serie A champions Napoli out of a deal for the 26-year-old, with the club’s sporting director Giovanni Manna hinting over the weekend, in a video seen by Tuttomercatoweb, that such finances make a deal for Gyokeres “impossible”.
