Manchester United and Liverpool chase Fulham star Antonee Robinson

Liverpool are looking for immediate cover and a possible long-term replacement for Andy Robertson.

Robinson has been on Man United’s wishlist since the beginning of the year, due to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia’s recent injury records.

Manchester United are reportedly eyeing a potential January swoop for Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson but they may face competition from Liverpool.

It is nearly the end of September and Erik ten Hag is yet to field a starting lineup featuring a natural left-back this season. Both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have missed all the action so far due to injuries.

United opted against signing a new left-back in the summer transfer window, forcing Ten Hag to rely on right-back Diogo Dalot to cover the position in the opening fixtures. In the League Cup tie against Barnsley, he handed midfielder Toby Collyer an opportunity to play on the left-hand side of the backline.

However, it is being suggested the club’s hierarchy are still scouring the market for a new left-back ahead of the winter transfer window.

According to The Sun, United have Robinson on their wishlist to “fill a problem position in Erik ten Hag’s squad — possibly as early as January.”

Earlier this month, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the USMNT star features alongside Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez and Brest’s Bradley Locko on the list of potential recruits, as United consider finding a cover for Shaw a top priority for the January window.

However, The Sun claim that the Red Devils will be joined by their fierce rivals Liverpool in the “heavyweight race” for the £35 million-rated full-back.

Liverpool are understood to be monitoring the 27-year-old, who is seemingly viewed as an immediate cover and a possible long-term replacement for Andy Robertson.

In the summer, Fulham showed little desire to part ways with Robinson, who impressively registered six assists in the Premier League last term, after selling João Palhinha to Bayern Munich.

Robinson, who moved to Craven Cottage in 2020 from Wigan Athletic, is tied to Fulham until 2028.

However, Fulham brought back former academy sensation Ryan Sessegnon on a free transfer this summer. The 24-year-old left-back has shown plenty of promise in the limited opportunity he has been offered so far.

It will be interesting to see how Sessegnon’s resurgence would impact the club’s stance on Robinson amid interest from Premier League giants.
