Liverpool confirm 22-man Premier League squad as four absences explained
Liverpool have named their squad for the opening half of the Premier League season
Liverpool have confirmed their 22-man squad for the Premier League season – with four notable absentees from the main list. The Reds have made a strong start to the campaign under new boss Arne Slot and are the only team other than early pace-setters Manchester City to have gained maximum points from their opening three games.
With the transfer window having now closed, clubs have been compelled to finalise their squads for the competition, with each team allowed to name 25 players of which no more than 17 do not fulfil the Premier League’s “home grown player” criteria.
Under-21 players – those who, for this season, were born on or after January 1, 2003 – can be named on an unlimited separate
Liverpool have therefore named 22 players in their main squad which includes new signing Federico Chiesa, Academy graduate Tom Hill and backup goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros
And as with the Champions League squad that was confirmed earlier this month, first-team regulars Harvey Elliott, Conor Bradley and Jarell Quansah have not been named in the main squad and are instead included on the secondary U21 list, joining 17-year-old midfielder Trey Nyoni.
The Premier League deems a “home grown player” to be one who, irrespective of nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to The Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons, or 36 months, before their 21st birthday, or the end of the season during which they turn 21.
LIVERPOOL PREMIER LEAGUE SQUAD: Alisson, Jaros, Kelleher; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Konate, Robertson, Tsimikas, Van Dijk; Endo, Gravenberch, Hill, Jones, Mac Allister, Morton, Szoboszlai; Chiesa, Diaz, Gakpo, Nunez, Salah, Jota.
