Liverpool started its Premier League season strong under Arne Slot, seemingly losing no steam without Jurgen Klopp.

The team sits in second place with nine points from three matches, but fans continue to monitor the transfer market as the club looks to reinforce its depth for a hopeful domestic and Champions League title run. The Reds have showcased one of the league’s top attacks, scoring seven goals without conceding. Both Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah have scored three times this term, with the latter also leading the Premier League in assists with four.

But even with the success around the team, one of the big storylines involves backup goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, who has publicly expressed his desire to leave the club in search of first-team opportunities. His frustration saw its breaking point once the club signed Giorgi Mamardashvili, who will join the squad next year.

How 20 Liverpool stars have fared on international break

Jurgen Klopp already hinted at Liverpool’s failed move for Kylian Mbappe after bombshell

The club faces stressful and uncertain re-negotiations with three key players whose deals are set to expire in June 2025: Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil van Dijk. The three stars are longtime staples of the team’s core, with Salah even admitted to having little to no conversations about his future.

Without further ado, here’s the latest transfer talk from Merseyside…

Adam Wharton

Liverpool is interested in a potential move for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, as recently reported by the Daily Mail. The 20-year-old became a hot prospect after a standout campaign at Palace, where he developed after moving from Blackburn Rovers.

Wharton’s versatility and potential have lured the attention of Liverpool and Premier League clubs like Manchester City and Newcastle United. Liverpool failed to secure a marquee midfield signing during the last transfer window, making Wharton a potential target to bolster its squad depth.

Eberechi Eze

Liverpool’s midfield continues to be a talking point for fans despite having standout players such as Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Curtis Jones. Eberechi Eze continues to garner significant interest from clubs across Europe.

Liverpool is among those clubs, according to the Liverpool ECHO. Palace could see a reshuffling of its squad, opening the door for Wharton or Eze to assume a larger role at a so-called bigger club.

Caoimhin Kelleher

Kelleher, the number two behind Alisson Becker, voiced frustration with a lack of minutes previously. After signing Mamardashvili from Valencia, the 25-year-old Irish goalkeeper saw the path to becoming the team’s first option grow dim.

Kelleher’s anger grew after the club brought in competition and rejected a summer transfer bid for him to leave. The club considers Kelleher a practical backup, but he publicly said he wants to go.

“I made it clear in the last few years I want to be a number one and play week in, week out,” said Kelleher. The club decided to get another goalkeeper. From the outside looking in, they seem to have decided to go in another direction.”
