GOOD NEWS LIVE: Florian Wirtz given Liverpool move advice by Germany legend

Florian Wirtz, the talent at Bayer Leverkusen, has been making waves across Europe with his exceptional performances.
Despite being only 21 years old, the attacking midfielder has already garnered significant attention from top clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester City, and Real Madrid.
The young playmaker was especially on the radar during the recent transfer window, with rumors of a potential £127 million move to Anfield.
However, Wirtz ultimately stayed put in the Bundesliga, continuing to develop under the guidance of Xabi Alonso.
There he played a crucial role in the club’s invincible, double-winning 2023/24 season.
Wirtz’s decision to remain at Leverkusen has been met with approval by many, who believe that staying in a familiar environment could be key to his growth.
Which Germany legend gave Wirtz advice?
Germany legend Lothar Matthaus, a World Cup winner in 1990, has weighed in on Wirtz’s future.
He advised the young star to resist the lure of a big move to clubs like Liverpool, at least for the next few years.
Matthaus emphasized the importance of Wirtz continuing his development at Leverkusen, particularly with the 2026 World Cup on the horizon.
“I think it would be best for him to prepare for the 2026 World Cup in a familiar environment,” Matthaus told Sky Sports Germany.
He questioned whether Wirtz would have the same impact if he moved to a club like Liverpool, Manchester City, or Barcelona, where competition for places is fierce.
“Will he have the same position as he did in Leverkusen if he goes to Liverpool, Manchester, or Barcelona? There is only one category for him,” Matthaus remarked, stressing the potential benefits of staying at Leverkusen until 2026.
“Then he will be 23 years old and will have ten more wonderful years abroad.”
Matthaus also expressed his delight that Wirtz is staying in the Bundesliga, highlighting how this decision will not only benefit Wirtz but also the league as a whole.
“It’s good for the Bundesliga anyway. He is still at an age where he hasn’t won that many championships.
“The Champions League games this year are also experiences that will make him even stronger
“Hopefully, he stays injury-free,” Matthaus concluded, underscoring the importance of Wirtz continuing to build on his already impressive career in Germany before making a potential move abroad.
