However, the summer was relatively subdued for the Reds. The transfer window brought its fair share of frustration.

New signings summer window
Liverpool announced their first signing of the summer transfer window after what seemed to be a very long wait for the fans. Goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili completed a £29m transfer to Liverpool but he will stay at Valencia for the rest of the season.
They then signed Federico Chiesa for a cut-price deal with Juventus worth £11 million ($14.5m). The full-back is expected to play an important role as Arne Slot looks to strengthen his squad in his first season in charge of the club.
In the last summer transfer window, the Anfield club spent over £95 million on midfield additions Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai from Brighton and RB Leipzig, respectively.
Back then, Liverpool had also brought in Wataru Endo from Stuttgart and Ryan Gravenberch completed a deadline-day move from Bayern Munich in a £34 million deal.

Departures summer window
Liverpool’s transfer strategy at times appeared to be a masterclass in patience, especially when it came to orchestrating high-value deals for peripheral players.
Fabio Carvalho was transferred to Brentford for £27.5 million, despite an initial offer of £15 million being turned down. Similarly, Sepp van den Berg moved to the Bees for £25 million, with his previous £20 million valuation deemed too steep.
Bobby Clark’s move to Red Bull Salzburg, driven by his wish to reunite with Pepijn Lijnders, saw three offers rejected before a £10 million deal was finally struck, including a 17.5 percent sell-on clause, mirroring the deals for Carvalho and Van den Berg.
Liverpool also managed to retain Caoimhin Kelleher and Joe Gomez, who had considered departures, and nearly secured Anthony Gordon for a reduced fee after Newcastle agreed to pay £45 million for Gomez earlier in the summer.
These transactions highlighted Hughes’ savvy, earning him praise from fans who had previously criticized the lack of activity during the summer. Additionally, the club’s effective loan strategy for players like Stefan Bajcetic (Salzburg), Ben Doak (Middlesbrough), Lewis Koumas (Stoke), Kaide Gordon (Norwich), and Calum Scanlon (Millwall) showcased the pathways team’s strength, bolstered by David Woodfine’s return as assistant sporting director.
The Reds bid goodbye to key names such as Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip following the conclusion of their contracts. Thiago announced his retirement from football and turned to coaching whereas Joel Matip is now a free agent.
Calvin Ramsay was sent out on loan again, this time to Wigan Athletic. Back-up goalkeeper Adrian finally decided to leave the Reds to reunite with his former club Real Betis. Fabio Carvalho and Sepp van den Berg have found a new club in Brentford and their departures have been confirmed.
