Transfer ‘blow’

Liverpool are reportedly at risk of missing out on RB Leipzig star Mohamed Simakan. That’s according to Sky Sports Germany, who claim Al-Nassr are ‘pushing a lot’ to secure the defender’s services.

However, it’s said no agreement has been reached yet but Leipzig are looking for a fee between £34m-£42million (€40-€50m). Both Liverpool and Newcastle United are thought to still be in the mix but Al-Nassr are ‘the most concrete’ option at this stage.

Liverpool are in the market for a new centre-half following Joel Matip’s departure at the end of last season and Simakan, who joined Leipzig from Strasbourg three years ago, could fit the bill. The former France under-21 international made 42 appearances in all competitions last season and won the DFB Pokal twice, as well as a DFL-Supercup during his three years in Germany.
