Liverpool’s strongest XI with Arne Slot leaving it late to complete perfect transfer window

Liverpool boss Arne Slot has taken a patient approach in his first summer transfer window with the Reds, although deals could be done in the final days before the deadline

Liverpool and the 2024 summer transfer window is becoming a case of better late than never.

After long periods of inaction the Reds are finally gearing up to do some business in the window’s closing days, with goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili already snapped up, albeit not until next summer, and Federico Chiesa looking likely to make the move to Merseyside soon in an exciting and fairly cheap move.

The arrivals may not stop there either, with suggestions that Liverpool are still looking at strengthening in defence and midfield before the deadline, before which there are likely to be several departures of youngsters and fringe players on permanent and loan deals.

The Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio is one such target who has been chased by the Reds for a while, with Arne Slot likely to be drawn to his ability to play at centre-back on the left side of defence as he continues to remodel the way Liverpool build from the back.

In midfield we know that Martin Zubimendi was seen as the shining light when it came to recruiting what from outside would be seen as a No.6, but Liverpool are likely to view as a multi-functional player capable of excellent technical ability on the ball, as well as covering in front of the back four.

Arne Slot has overseen two wins from two so far

At the time of the Real Sociedad star’s rejection it was said that Liverpool wouldn’t chase another midfielder, with Slot beginning the campaign with Ryan Gravenberch in the nominally deeper position in the centre and the former Bayern Munich man impressing.

And for the time being, as is true for the case of Chiesa as well, the Reds boss is likely to see the players he inherited from Jurgen Klopp as those that can make up his best XI, with only one change to his line-up made between this season’s opening two Premier League games.

In the win over Brentford on Sunday it was Ibrahima Konate who joined Virgil van Dijk at the back, with the pair sitting in front of Alisson and in between Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson.

Liverpool’s new signings will be aimed at bolstering the squad and not initially the first XI

Gravenberch then started in midfield where he was joined by Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, with the Hungarian having seemingly won the battle with Harvey Elliott to start as the most advanced of Liverpool’s trio in the centre.
