Eddie Nketiah looks to be heading to Crystal Palac

Here we go! After an incredibly frustrating couple of weeks, it finally looks like Arsenal are going to oversee the sale of Eddie Nketiah.

Marseille were unwilling to agree to Arsenal’s demands while Nottingham Forest pivoted to Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez, seemingly leaving Nketiah with a dearth of options heading into the final week of the summer transfer window.

However, Crystal Palace have always been there. The Eagles’ interest in Arsenal’s third-choice striker is long-standing and it seems they’re now ready to bring Eddie to Selhurst Park.

The Athletic’s David Ornsteinย reported on Monday afternoon that the Gunners are set to agree a ยฃ30m bid from Palace (including ยฃ5m in add-ons).

The Eagles have long considered moving for Nketiah, and perhaps their sluggish start to the new season has convinced the club to make a move. Oliver Glasner currently has Jean-Philippe Mateta operating as his leading man up top following his prolific end to the 2023/24 season with Odsonne Edouard serving as his compatriot’s back-up.

Nketiah will have to work to earn regular minutes, but the Arsenal forward has shown enough in glimpses that he’s capable of functioning as a starting striker for a Premier League club. He’s improved greatly from his days as a mere poacher, with Nketiah’s profile evolving considerably over the past three years.

Contract in place, salary agreed and final details being sort

After Ornstein’s report,ย Fabrizio Romanoย confirmed the England international has already agreed personal terms with the south London club.

The money involved is certainly reasonable, and it’s a sale the club surely had to oversee before the deadline. Nketiah’s departure could also open the door for a forward to arrive. Arsenal reportedly remain in the market for an attacker over the next few days, although the club are more likely to sign a wide player as opposed to an out-and-out Nketiah replacement.

Nico Williams, Simon Adingra, Raheem Sterling, and Kingsley Coman are names I’ll be keeping an eye on. Victor Osimhen could also be a market opportunity too good to pass up given the finances involved with his proposed deal to Al Ahli – which the player rejected.
