Mail Sport reported earlier this week that the Mikel Arteta side had agreed a deal in principle with the LaLiga  club to sign the Spain international, with the Gunners looking to bolster their midfield options.

On Sunday, Fabrizio Romano provided an update on Merino’s imminent switch to the Emirates.

He wrote on X: ‘Mikel Merino has completed his medical as new Arsenal player with clubs exchanging documents, deal being sealed.’

Merino is now expected to put pen to paper on a deal until June 2028, with the option of a further year.
