Liverpool transfer news as Giorgi Mamardashvili could become the first signing of the summer, while Goncalo Inacio and Takefusa Kubo are also back in the gossip

Liverpool is once again being linked with Goncalo Inacio, with claims that talks could be imminent.

Liverpool transfer news is still yet to burst into life, even as the Premier League season rolls around. The campaign gets underway tonight with Manchester United vs Fulham, while the Reds take on Ipswich tomorrow — but deals are still being discussed in the background, at least according to the rumor mill.

Giorgi Mamardashvili continues to be linked with a move to Anfield, with an initial loan elsewhere proposed for the Valencia goalkeeper. For the time being, Arne Slot still has Alisson to rely on, and Caoimhin Kelleher is yet to secure a move away either, but the Georgian stopper is an exciting prospect for the future.

Other than that, it feels like all the Liverpool links have been exhausted, causing them to loop back to previous rumors. Takefusa Kubo and Goncalo Inacio are both back in the gossip columns, with talks supposedly planned with the Sporting defender’s agent.

The transfer window shuts on August 30, so Liverpool doesn’t have long to strike any deals. But even now, it would be a shock if nobody arrived all summer.

‘Tensions’ over Giorgi Mamardashvili deal

Tension is growing at Valencia over Giorgi Mamardashvili’s potential exit, according to Plaza Deportiva

It’s claimed that Valencia is yet to accept an offer from Liverpool for the goalkeeper, although a bid of $33m (€30m) plus $5.5m (€5m) in bonuses is being considered.

And agreement is said to have been reached with Mamardashvili over a move, which will see him go on loan to Bournemouth for two years.

To do that though, Valencia would have to agree to Liverpool’s offer before loaning him out themselves, with the Reds unable to sign a player and loan him out in the same window.

The situation is described as ‘bizarre’, with Valencia growing concerned at how long negotiations are taking, which leaves them with less time to find a replacement.

Rodrygo ‘contact’

Rodrygo has been in contact with Manchester City this year, according to The Athletic.

Rumors linking the Brazilian with a move to Liverpool have re-emerged in recent days, although it’s reported that Pep Guradiola is an admirer.

Rodrygo’s entourage though insists that he wants to stay put at the Bernabeu, and that Madrid is not expecting an offer from City.

Manu Kone wants transfer

Manu Kone has made it clear he wants to play for a Champions League club this season, according to Sky Germany.

As we mentioned earlier, the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder has reportedly told his current club he wants to leave this summer. Gladbach is expecting to fetch $28m (£21m/€25m) including bonuses.

Kone was heavily linked with Liverpool last year, and although the Reds are reportedly not looking at any other No.6 targets after Martin Zubimendi’s rejection,

Valencia addresses Giogi Mamardashvili links

Valencia boss Ruben Baraja had addressed speculation over Giogi Mamardashvili’s future as he continues to be linked with a move to Liverpool.

Speaking ahead of their game against Barcelona on Saturday, Baraja said

It is very simple. As long as there is nothing, I am not going to evaluate it. I am not talking about hypotheses.

He has a contract with Valencia and, as long as there is no different situation, he is our player. He is ready to participate in tomorrow’s game. He is prepared to compete, when things happen, we will talk when they happen.

Giorgi Mamardashvili has reportedly agreed to the novel structure of
Piero Hincapie interest

Liverpool is one of four clubs interested in signing Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen, according to Ecuadorian site Studio Futbol.

The Reds are named alongside Bayern Munich, Tottenham and Atletico Madrid as being in the race for the defender.

Xabi Alonso is said to have asked Hincapie to stay put at Leverkusen, believing that he is a key piece in the club going for a second straight Bundesliga title.

Marco Verratti offer

Liverpool is among four Premier League sides to have been offered Marco Verratti, according to HITC.

As well as the Reds, Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal have reportedly been made aware of the 31-year-old’s potential availability, along with some teams in Italy.

Verratti made the move to Qatar side Al-Arabi last year, but it’s suggested he could be tempted by a move with just one year remaining on his contract.

Liverpool has reportedly been offered the chance to sign former PSG midfielder Marco

Maxim De Cuyper interest

Liverpool is among a host of clubs interested in Club Brugge defender Maxim De Cuyper, according to Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad.

The left-back is reportedly drawing interest from the likes of Real Betis, Sevilla, Marseille, Ajax and Wolfsburg.

It’s now claimed that Liverpool and Arsenal are monitoring the 23-year-old, although De Cuyper is said to want to cement his place in the Belgian national team before making a move abroad.

Sepp van den Berg interest

Bayer Leverkusen has joined the race for Sepp van den Berg, according to German outlet Kicker.

The defender’s future remains up in the air, with Liverpool sticking to its $22m (£17m/€20m) valuation, despite PSV Eindhoven showing no intent to meet it with their offers, while Mainz is only interested in another loan.

Xabi Alonso could provide a solution though, with Leverkusen said to be willing to meet the asking price as they look for a potential replacement for Odilon Kossounou, who is wanted by Crystal Palace.

Slot breaks silence on Martin Zubimendi

Arne Slot has addressed the failed pursuit of Martin Zubimendi for the first time. Speaking at his pre-match press conference, the Liverpool boss said:

We’re in a good place, and like I’ve said many times before, in the background, Richard [Hughes] is trying to strengthen the squad as he can, but unfortunately Zubimendi decided not to come.

He [Hughes] did every effort, he tried everything to bring him in, but if a player doesn’t want to come, it’s obvious then that he is not coming.

Teun Koopmeiners chance

Liverpool could take advantage of Teun Koopmeiner’s situation at Atalanta, with Arne Slot said to be pushing for a deal.

According to Tutto Juve, Atalanta doesn’t want to sell the midfielder to a direct rival, with Juventus seemingly leading the way. The Turin club though is said to be reluctant to pay the $66m (£51.5m/€60m) asking price.

That could bring Liverpool back into the conversation, with Football Insider reporting earlier this week that Slot is keen for the Reds to sign his former AZ Alkmaar star.

Teun Koopmeiners of Atalanta

How to get the best out of Nunez?

“We need him to be in scoring positions as much as we can. Every individual benefits from the team’s performance and if we can get our attackers, not just him, in dangerous positions then they will score goals.

“It is up to us to get him or Diogo, or the rest of our attackers, into positions where they can make their impact.”

Diaz’s future

“There is a lot of speculation constantly. It is not a surprise. Is there any player they don’t talk about?

“His future is with us. I like a lot of what I have seen from him in the last 10 days since he came in. He has had a big impact in the last few years and I am hoping he has a big impact this season.”

Slot also confirms he has a fully fit squad to choose from this weekend.

More on transfers

“If you don’t strengthen you become weaker? I don’t understand that. I truly believe you can improve on the training ground. That has happened a lot here in recent years.

“If the teams around do strengthen they can potentially become better. But I don’t necessarily believe that if you bring in players, you become better. In general, every player in the team needs perspective on playing time. If you bring new players in, the energy in the group can go down.

“Richard and me are trying to strengthen the squad. If we think we have found someone, we will try to bring them in. Unfortunately the one that we thought could help us said no. But Richard is still trying to improve the team.”

Trent’s best position?

“A position is always related to the team. It is always my aim to bring the best out of a player but the main target is to bring the best out of the team.

“In the modern game, you see a lot of full-backs going into midfield. He is capable of playing both positions well so it is down to me to decide where he can help the team the most

What excites Slot the most?

“As a manager, you try to implement your style to the players. A lot of these players already knew because a lot of things stayed the same and we made some slight adjustments. That gives energy to us too that the players buy into it.

“Many things were very good before. It would be great if after five or six weeks of pre-season you achieved perfection. But it is not that easy. We are ready for tomorrow but there is still a lot of things to improve to get to where we want.

“If I am here for six or seven years, I will give the same answer. There are always ways to get be

New contracts for Salah, Trent, VVD

“I don’t think this is the place to talk about contracts. I can assure you that they are in the squad tomorrow.”
