Transfer deadline day is just over four weeks away, and Liverpool are yet to welcome in Arne Slot’s first signing as Reds boss.

The club have been linked to a number of players, but none has, so far, proved to be of any value. As a result, a number of fans may be getting itchy feet as deadline day ticks closer.

That said, Liverpool look poised to land Chelsea academy prodigy Rio Ngumoha in what would technically be the first arrival of the summer, albeit the 16-year-old would go straight into the youth set-up.

Meanwhile, any trace linking Jarell Quansah with an exit has been strongly denied, following the news that Liverpool had agreed a £45m package for Joe Gomez with Newcastle in Anthony Gordon talks.

Liverpool transfer business “will finally accelerate”

Liverpool’s summer transfer business is reportedly set to “finally accelerate next week” ahead of their Premier League opener against Ipswich Town.

So far, the Reds are the only team in the Premier League not to have made any additions to their squad this summer despite being linked with moves for Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon and Riccardo Calafiori before he joined Arsenal.

However, Miguel Delaney of The Independent is reporting that the Reds are set for a busy 10 days in the market as the return of the Premier League edges closer.

“The belief around the Liverpool camp is that transfer business will finally accelerate next week, as the opening Premier League game away to Ipswich Town on 18 August comes into view,” wrote Delaney. “The next 10 days are likely to see the first concrete bids put in.

“Liverpool are now looking for a centre-half, a defensive midfielder and a wide forward, although potentially two of the latter. The most high-profile of those is Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon, who has long been hugely keen

ICYMI: Liverpool handed Anthony Gordon transfer bombshell as Newcastle plan last-ditch talks

Newcastle United are reportedly planning to hold contract talks with Anthony Gordon when he returns for pre-season in a bid to ward off transfer interest from Liverpool. Gordon was the subject of failed transfer discussions between the Reds and the Magpies in June.

As reported by the ECHO earlier this week, Liverpool agreed in principle a £45million deal last month for Joe Gomez as part of a package that would have seen fellow Gordon switch to Anfield for £75m. But Newcastle ultimately ditched the transfer as they discovered other avenues to meet the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules ahead of the June 30 deadline.

Arne Slot has yet to make his first Liverpool signing with four weeks to go until deadline day. A number of players have been linked with exits, although Newcastle’s interest in Jarell Quansah during Gordon talks was shut down.

There have been one or two speculatory claims that Ryan Gravenberch’s future at Liverpool amid outlandish suggestions that he might leave this summer.

This seems rather unlikely given the Dutchman only signed last year, and now journalist David Lynch has reiterated this stance.

Tyler Morton: Arne Slot style is starting to click Liverpool

Tyler Morton has hailed the methods of Arne Slot’s and believes that his style is “starting to click” at Liverpool.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com after Thursday’s 2-1 friendly win over Arsenal, Morton said: “It was brilliant to watch, I think the team did very well. The style the gaffer is implementing is working and I think it worked today.

“You can see it’s starting to click already and that’s a big compliment to the management team.

“I think the players out there today were brilliant, a lot of standout players. I think it’s going to improve quickly and I think it was a very good step in a good direction.”

Morton added: “It’s Total Football and it’s every midfielder’s dream. You could see it today in the triangles that were played; he’s big on triangles and they were [working] today.

“I thought it was brilliant, I thought we dominated and against a very good Arsenal side it was a great display.”
