Liverpool came away 1-0 winners in their first friendly in their pre-season tour of the United States but picked up a number of injury concerns already

Liverpool got their pre-season tour of the United States underway with a 1-0 win over Real Betis at the Acrisure Stadium. Dominik Szoboszlai scored the only goal that separated the sides, despite Arne Slot handing minutes to 23 players.

Slot is yet to welcome the senior stars who were involved in the final stages of Euro 2024 and Copa America, respectively. The likes of Alexis Mac Allister, Darwin Nunez, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, Alisson and Luis Diaz are still absent while Diogo Jota is expected to link up with the squad next week.

The senior players involved in the friendly against Spanish opposition were Mohamed Salah, Wataru Endo and Szoboszlai. Slot handed opportunities to a number of academy graduates including Ben Doak, Lewis Koumas, Kaide Gordon and Trey

Bobby Clark

Injury: Back problem.

Clark has been sidelined with injury since April. He made two appearances for the first team in 2022/23, then four starts among 12 games in total last season.

This summer, the teenager has been around the squad at the Reds’ AXA training centre, however, he is still undergoing rehabilitation work. As a result, he was ruled out of the behind-closed-doors friendly defeat to Preston North End and has not travelled with the squad for their tour of the United States.

Reports have suggested he may be sidelined for around two to three weeks.

Possible return date: August 11 vs

Curtis Jones

Injury: Muscle.

What Slot has said: “I think it’s too early to tell [how bad it is]. He maybe could have played on, but I think maybe you could see he was not at 100 per cent. In a friendly game, with so many days coming up in our tour, it was best to take him off.

“Hopefully he can recover from [it] really fast, but we have to wait and see. We hope he recovers really fast so we can see him in the next few games. It’s always a pity if he has to go out after half an hour, and before that you could see that he was not completely free.

“It was unfortunate, because he had two really good weeks during training sessions, so I looked forward to seeing him in the game. But unfortunately, he had to go out.”

Possible return date: Unknown.

Andy Robertson

Injury: Knock.

Despite travelling with the squad to the US, Robertson is not expected to play a part in any of Liverpool’s remaining games against Arsenal and Manchester United. Robertson is recovering from a knock picked up during Euro 2024.

What Slot has said: “He is not fully fit yet. But we are expecting him in the end of the tour – maybe just after the tour – to be fully fit again. He took a small injury into the Euros and afterwards he had to recover from that. I wouldn’t expect him to play in any of the [pre-season] games.”

Possible return date: August 11 vs Sevilla.
