Liverpool handed Nico Williams transfer deadline as Barcelona update emerges

Premier League clubs including Liverpool are in the race to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao this summer and have a deadline

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has revealed that the club have the finances to sign Nico Williams amid links to Liverpool this summer.

The Spanish giants are battling for his signature amid interest from Premier League sides Arsenal and Chelsea. The 21-year-old has been a standout performer for Spain at Euro 2024.

Although Barca are thought to be battling mass debts that restrict them from spending, they have an advantage over English clubs. Williams is said to be favouring a move to Camp Nou over

 

According to Spanish outlet Sport, Williams will not initially consider offers from other clubs as he prefers a move to Barcelona. However, he has set them a deadline, telling them not to wait until the last minute to strike a deal.

Rumours suggest that the winger has not completely ruled out a move to England but is giving priority to join Barca. This week, Laporta has given a positive update to all the fans claiming that Barca will have the financial means to complete a deal for Williams.

Speaking to Catalunya Radio, he said: “Economically speaking, we could commit to the signing of Nico Williams. Nico’s a player I like, I like him a lot. We are working with [coach Hansi] Flick on possible signings.
