Liverpool may have been handed a boost in their reported pursuits of Anthony Gordon and Marc Guehi. The Reds are yet to complete any new signings this summer, despite the transfer window being open for several weeks.

New sporting director Richard Hughes is overseeing the summer transfer business at Anfield and will be working alongside new head coach Arne Slot in preparing Liverpool’s squad for the new season. The Dutchman has been assessing the squad in the early days of pre-season training ahead of the trip to the United States later this month.

Even though Liverpool are yet to complete any new signings, that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from going into overdrive. Guehi and Gordon are just two of the players who have been credited as potential targets for the Reds this summer, as their futures at Crystal Palace and Newcastle United, respectively, remain in doubt.

The duo were part of the England squad at Euro 2024, which came to an end on Sunday night. The Three Lions lost 2-1 to Spain in the final in Berlin, and the players will now have a summer break before returning to duty with their respective clubs.

Guehi played the full game for England in the final and was a regular at centre-back throughout the tournament. Gordon, meanwhile, played just four minutes across the whole competition for the Three Lions.

Now that Euro 2024 is over, transfer business is expected to ramp up for clubs across Europe now that players are no longer on international duty. Liverpool sporting director Hughes alluded to as much in a press conference earlier this month.

But with Guehi and Gordon no longer on England duty, Liverpool may find it easier to get a deal agreed with their clubs and arrange medicals. Reports from The Telegraph last month stated that Palace valued Guehi at £65 million, while Gordon only signed for Newcastle in January last year for £45 million.
