The Reds have been linked with a number of wingers over the summer transfer window with their interest in Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon ending over the weekend.

LIVERPOOL’S POTENTIAL TRANSFERS AND COPA AMERICA HIGHLIGHTS: INSIGHTS FROM THE DAILY RED PODCAST

The latest episode of The Daily Red Podcast, hosted by Dave Hendrick, dives into the current state of Liverpool FC, transfer rumors, and noteworthy performances in the Copa America. Despite the summer lull in major football activities, Hendrick provides an engaging analysis of potential transfer targets and evaluates Liverpool’s existing squad.

CURRENT STATE OF LIVERPOOL FC

Dave Hendrick opens the podcast by acknowledging the slow start to the summer transfer window for Liverpool, mentioning that “nothing really starts until July.” While other Premier League clubs are making moves, Liverpool’s transfer activity remains quiet. Hendrick discusses potential exits for several players, including “Sepp van den Berg, Fabio Carvalho, Tyler Morton, Luis Diaz, and Nat Phillips.”

In terms of current performances, he highlights two Liverpool players in action at the Copa America. Luis Diaz had a mixed performance, with Hendrick humorously noting, “Luis Diaz got a great clip for social media and then stank the place out for the rest of the game.” On the other hand, Alisson Becker had a quiet match: “Alisson spent his evening scratching his ass because he had nothing to do.”

EVALUATING COPA AMERICA TALENT

To pass the time during the transfer lull, Hendrick meticulously analyses players from Copa America who might be of interest to Liverpool. He begins with Group A, which includes Argentina, Peru, Chile, and Canada. While he realistically rules out several top talents like Lionel Messi and Julian Alvarez, he expresses interest in players such as Lautaro Martinez and Enzo Fernandez, stating, “I would take Lautaro Martinez without question” and “I would still take Enzo in a double pivot.”

Hendrick continues his assessment with other groups, identifying promising talents from each team. From Group B, he points out “Ismael Kone from Watford,” describing him as a “big powerful midfielder” who had a “really good season.” He also shows interest in players like “Dario Osario from Chile” and “Jonathan David from Canada.”

Moving to Group C, Hendrick mentions Ecuador’s “Piero Hincapie” and “Moises Caicedo” as notable prospects. For Group D, he highlights several Uruguayan players, emphasising, “I would definitely take Ronald Araujo and Manuel Ugarte.”

TRANSFER SPECULATIONS AND CLUB NEEDS

In addition to his Copa America analysis, Hendrick touches on Liverpool’s specific transfer needs. He suggests that Liverpool might benefit from signing versatile players who can fill multiple roles. For example, he praises “Yunus Musah from the USA” for his versatility and potential, saying, “you could mould him into whatever you want him to be.”

Hendrick also addresses the club’s need for a strong midfield presence, advocating for the acquisition of players like “Manuel Ugarte” to “supplement and rotate with Alexis Mac Allister.” He highlights the importance of having a deep squad to navigate the challenges of a long season.
