LIVERPOOL TRANSFER NEWS 2024: Florian Wirtz and Dani Olmo Tipped for Anfield

Wirtz tipped for Anfield
Former Liverpool midfielder Vladimir Smicer has urged the Reds to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz this summer.

The attacking midfielder has emerged as a standout performer for a Leverkusen side who won the Bundesliga without defeat this season. Wirtz has also become a star for Germany under Xabi Alonso’s guidance and Smicer, who won the Champions League with the Reds in 2005, thinks there are similairites with Philippe Coutinho.

Liverpool fans will be eagerly following the early transfer talk to try and gage a glimpse of the type of transfer trajectory under Arne Slot.

The Dutchman arrives on June 1 as head coach, rather than manager, with Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards appearing to guide the rudder when it comes to new arrivals. The board will also need to sort out the contracts of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold within the year.

All three are entering the final 12 months of their deals although the trio are, at this stage, not thought likely to leave this summer. Meanwhile, Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister insists he is happy at Anfield despite links with Real Madrid.

Dani Olmo To Liverpool

Links with Dani Olmo are interesting. We know Liverpool are partial to a Red Bull signing, after all, and he has spent most of this season on the right-wing – filling the void left by Dominik Szoboszlai.

I saw Olmo score the winner for Spain Under-21s in the European Championships final in Italy back in 2019, and have kept the loosest of eyes on him ever since. A very talented player with an eye for a pass, he racks up the assists for the German outfit.

However, he has also had his injury issues for Leipzig in each of the past three seasons, which has prevented the 26-year-old from ever fully replicating his impressive form from his first season with the Red Bull club.

While the midfielder could bolster Liverpool’s attacking ranks if they fancied him, I’d imagine the Reds would favour a more defensive option if they strengthen their engine-room this summer.

The playmaker has enjoyed a fruitful maiden season at the Reds and reports suggest Madrid are keeping tabs on him throughout next season ahead of a potential move for him next summer. Stay up to date with the latest Liverpool transfer news and rumours below.
