UPDATE : Liverpool’s rising star Curtis Jones could potentially participate in the Africa Cup of Nations, posing a potential challenge for manager Jurgen Klopp

The AFCON tournament takes place every two years during the winter months of January and February.

Liverpool has previously faced the setback of losing key players like Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane due to their international commitments.

Although Mane is no longer with the club, the potential loss of Salah could disrupt their pursuit of the Premier League title this season.

Now, reports suggest that Klopp may face another potential dilemma in the future.

Midfielder Jones, who has impressed with his performances this season, is still eligible to represent Nigeria.

The 22-year-old qualifies to play for the Super Eagles through his grandmother.

While he won’t be participating in this year’s tournament, he could potentially do so in future editions.

Jones has already represented England at the U21 level, but he has yet to make an appearance for the senior team, leaving open the possibility of switching his international allegiance.

However, there is currently no indication that Jones intends to switch his allegiance, as he aims to secure a place in the England national team for EURO 2024.

Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders has praised Jones for his development this season, highlighting his progress alongside the team’s overall growth since the end of last year.
