Alexis Mac Allister has won the Premier League’s Goal of the Month award for his first league goal for Liverpool, a decisive effort from range in the 4-3 win against Fulham.

Mac Allister beat out Wataru Endō’s inch-perfect strike from the same match — as well as seven other nominated goals — to take December’s prize, as his effort from 27 yards was deemed the best.

Mac Allister was gratified to receive the honor, and spoke briefly about what the award means to him and what went through his head when he decided to take the shot:

I’m very happy because there were so many nice goals during this month. But thank you to the fans and everyone that voted for this goal to be Goal of the Month.

[It is] not a bad one to be the first [goal] at the club! Definitely one of the nicest goals I’ve scored in my career so far. It’s a nice one.

I think on the pitch I didn’t realize how good it was. Then when I saw the replay, I could see how good it was. Very happy and hopefully many more to come.

I knew that I was going to shoot. Of course I didn’t know the ball was going to be top bins!

But the idea was to have a shot — it’s something that I really like. Maybe here in Liverpool we didn’t see many of them because I’m playing a deeper position. But definitely when I have the opportunity to do it, I try to do it. This was a nice goal.

We train a lot [for] this kind of moment, finishing is something very important. Maybe with this goal I was a bit further [away] than what I thought. But it’s definitely something that we train a lot.

After returning from a nasty injury, the Argentine midfielder will hope to add more goals to his new Liverpool account.
