The Senegalese star comes from a village that is barely visible on a map.

Sadio Mane’s humble beginnings in a village deep inside Senegal show the incredible journey the Liverpool forward has been on to become one of the best players in the world.

Tribuna.com has compiled a few facts about Bambali, the village Mane was born and brought up in:

Located deep inside Senegal, Bambali is 400 kilometres away from the capital of the country, Dakar.

The population of the village is only about 2000 people.

Old houses, wooden fences and plenty of mango trees surround the village

The village is located on the coast of the Casamance River and therefore the primary occupation of the locals involves fishing and farming.

French is the first language for all villagers – it is also Senegal’s first language.

Mane has built a school in Bambali

Sadio Mane has built a school, a big hospital and a mosque in Bambali.

Mane wanted to give his hometown hope with the hospital as his father passed away when he was just 11 due to insufficient availability of medical facilities.

The mosque Mane has built – his dad was the Imam (religious leader) of the village’s old mosque

Senegal has a population of over 15 million, with more than 95% of the people followers of Islam.

Mane’s house has a well inside it from which villagers are free to draw water.

It’s common in Senegal for joint families to all live together with one another – the mansion Mane has built has 40 family members living under one roof.

Mane’s relatives are ready to watch an AFCON game between Senegal and Tanzania in 2018. Sadio misses the game but everyone is still excited.

A lot of the villagers are Reds fans now – especially after the winger gifted 300 Liverpool shirts to people in the village before the Champions League final in 2018.

Everybody knows Mane here. Everybody sees him as their brother and a role

The Senegalese star comes from a village that is barely visible on a map.

Who is he?

Pinhas ‘Pini’ Zahavi was born in 1955 and is considered to be the first-ever super agent in football. The Israeli started working on player transfer over 40 years ago before the world even knew the likes of Mino Raiola and Jorge Menes. Contrary to most of his colleagues who employ dozens of staff members, Zahave prefers to work alone.

Role in Neymar’s transfer to PSG

Zahavi’s relationship with Neymar go back to the Brazilian’s time at Santos and the 28-year-old even refers to the agent as ‘his brother’. The Israeli made sure that Ney’s deal with Barcelona had a release clause (€222 million) and sat alongside the player’s father during talks with Paris Saint-Germain. The transfer reportedly earned him a €10.7 million commission.

Conflict with Bayern over Lewandowski

Zahavi worked on arranging Robert Lewandowski’s transfer to Real Madrid in the summer of 2018. He met with the striker’s agent Maik Barthel and chastised him for failing to include a release clause in the Bayern Munich contract. Zahavi then tried to put pressure on the Bundesliga giants through the media, but Bayern insisted that their prized asset was not for sale.

Abramovich ties

When Roman Abramovich had his United Kingdom visa revoked in 2019, Zahavi helped the billionaire to get an Israeli citizenship. In fact, the 65-year-old’s relationship with the Chelsea owner date back to 2003 when he advised the Russian during the acquisition of the London side.
