Arsenal are facing looming concerns after Bukayo Saka was substituted with an injury during Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat by Lens in Tuesday night’s Champions League clash.

He was taken from the field in the 34th minute of the match for the second straight game after picking up a knock.

The English winger was seen wincing in pain as the physio team arrived onto the pitch to treat him.

He left the field early during Arsenal’s 4-0 win against Bournemouth on Saturday, but had returned to training on Monday in what was a huge boost to Mikel Arteta’s side, with a monumental clash against Manchester City coming up at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

After the match, Arteta delivered an update on the England star saying: ‘Bukayo felt something after a backheel. Nothing else.’

The Spaniard was unable to give an update on when Saka would be back, meaning he could be a doubt for City, with TV2Sport Journalist Arilas Ould-Saada claiming Arteta had said ‘it doesn’t look good.’

The 22-year-old had provided the assist to tee up Gabriel Jesus, who had also returned to training on Monday, for Arsenal’s opener against the Ligue 1 outfit.

Lens pulled another back through Adrien Thomasson, before Elye Wahi placed the ball past David Raya in goal to see the hosts claim a 2-1.

But once again, his fitness is in doubt, with Martin Keown lauding the 22-year-old on TNT Sports during the match. He said: ‘He’s a wonderful talent, no doubt about that.

‘He draws players in to contact. I’m worried about this one though… is it his hamstring?

After he was injured at the weekend, Saka returned to training in a huge boost to Arteta’s side

‘And with Man City coming up at the weekend they got him out of there as quick as possible and fingers crossed.

‘But you know, it’s the workload in games. We had the World Cup to prepare for this time last year and successive seasons.

‘He’s such a young man, so they have to protect him and that’s a big loss if he is unavailable at the weekend.’

Saka has been pivotal for the Gunners this season, returning four goals and three assists across his last eight appearances across all competitions.
