Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid transfer gets ’70 to 80 per cent’ go ahead from La Liga chief

As Jürgen Klopp prepares his injury-hit squad for the visit of Brentford, the Reds continue to be linked with one of the best players in the world. Here’s your round-up of the latest Liverpool news.

Liverpool ‘has presented offers to sign Kylian Mbappé’

The Reds have long been linked with a move for Kylian Mbappé. With it looking likely he will depart Paris Saint-Germain at the conclusion of his contract next summer, the rumor mill is cranking up once again.

It has even been claimed that Liverpool has “gone so far as to present offers for him”. That’s according to Cadena Ser (via Paisley Gates) who has also stated that the Reds are the best-positioned club to sign Mbappé. Real Madrid has supposedly cooled its interest because of the numbers involved (as if they were ever going to be small!).

While Mbappé will not command a transfer fee as it stands because his contract will have run down, his salary would surely rule Liverpool out of the running. Per FBRef, the 24-year-old currently earns around $1.5m (£1.2m/€1.4m) a week, approximately as much as the Reds’ top six highest-paid players combined.

No matter how talented he undoubtedly is, can you imagine Fenway Sports Group approving that kind of outlay, before we get to what it might mean for future contract negotiations at the club? Irrespective of that unlikely scenario coming to pass, the idea of Mbappé moving to Liverpool will continue until his future is determined. Real Madrid remains the most likely place.

If you’re reading this then you’re likely aware of Liverpool’s injury problems ahead of its match with Brentford. Per Premier Injuries, only six clubs in the Premier League are currently deprived of more members of their respective squads.
