Diego Simeone has revealed he’d like Jurgen Klopp to replace him at Atletico Madrid once he ends his illustrious stay at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Simeone has been in the Atletico hot seat since 2011 and recently signed a new four-year extension with the La Liga club, whom he has won two La Liga titles with already during his 12-year stay,

However, the Argentine has admitted he would like to see one of Klopp, Carlo Ancelotti or Mauricio Pochettino succeed him at the Wanda Metropolitano – where Liverpool won the Champions League in 2019 – when he calls it a day.

Speaking in his first extensive interview since penning a new deal with Atletico in September, Simeone was asked who he would like to see replace him once his time at the La Liga giants ends.

The former Manchester City and Schalke 04 wide man has been linked with a return to the Premier League, but Christoph Freund such speculation as “fake”.

He told “Reports of talks not taking place with Leroy Sané over new deal are fake. This is the best Leroy Sané Bayern has had so far. He’s one of the players on whom we want to build the future of the team.”

Leroy Sané has been linked with a move to Liverpool
Liverpool are reportedly awaiting an offer from Barcelona for forward Luis Diaz – with Frenkie de Jong possibly moving in the other direction.

Diaz, who signed for the Reds in January 2022, has a deal at Anfield until June 2027. However, on Thursday a journalist from Argentina claimed that Diaz was being eyed by Barcelona.

“I wanted to tell you that Liverpool are expecting, at some point, an offer from Barcelona for Luis Diaz,” he said on air on the Fútbol Total programme.

“At Liverpool, they tell me: ‘At some point, we are waiting for the offer.’ At Liverpool, they hope that Barcelona will offer them a player. Frenkie de Jong would be the one. De Jong would go to Liverpool and that, if the numbers give, Luis would agree to go to Barcelona.”
